The Junk Drawer
The junk drawer… a drawer that hold anything that doesn’t have a home, random pens, cables, paperclips, receipts etc, all in a disorganised mess.
Todays task is to:
- empty all the contents of your junk drawer onto the table (lay down a tablecloth or newspaper before emptying contents).
- Throw out items you no longer need
- Put away items that already have a designated home
- Clean the drawer with a damp cloth
- Group the rest of the items into categories
- Create a place for each of the grouped items; or
- Fill this drawer with little divider containers to help keep it organised and to ‘hopefully’ try and prevent it from becoming a miscellaneous untidy drawer.
Organise the drawer using containers similar to these I use in my kitchen drawers

Wow, I love the egg-carton idea!! I think I have a few drawers that need a good shuffling… ^_^
Recycling at its best 🙂
I had junk shoe boxes. found a key for an old wardrobe. Had just brought my son a little gentleman’s wardrobe, He’s happy he now has a key for both doors. Now to declutter the tool shoe boxes.
That’s great progress! Keep going!
I found yo-yo’s from my childhood. The kids loved playing with them. They thought mum and dad were way cool as we could do tricks
All things old are new again!
I can’t wait to do this!! I have a certain second drawer in my kitchen that really needs some attention!!
There’s always that second or third kitchen drawer!
We live in a small apartment with very few drawer space. We don’t have the “luxury” of a junk drawer! However we have a shoe box in the laundry area that has photo hanging supplies, super glue, batteries, etc. I suppose that’s become our “junk drawer.” I have wondered what I can do to better organize it. I love the ice tray and egg carton ideas. Maybe one or both of those ideas can help me, either in the junk box, or in other places! Thanks so much for the handy tip!
