{declutter & organise} Broom cupboard

An organised broom cupboard makes ‘cleaning day’ so much easier when you don’t have to wrestle the contents inside.
In my broom cupboard you will find:

  • Vacuum Cleaner
  • Ironing Board
  • Iron
  • Clothes hanger for my the ironing
  • 2 dusters (I have 2 as my girls help me dust)
  • Blinds cleaner
  • Mop
  • No broom, I don’t use brooms, instead I use a dust buster on a stick (love it, will tell you more about it tomorrow)

What items can you declutter from your broom cupboard?

Mount your brooms, duster and other long handled items onto the wall of your cupboard or on the back of a door.

Great for keeping the vacuum upright and not falling on you when you open the door

Oh awesome. Will definitely do this. Our broom cupboard is in the kitchen (weird hey?) and I keep the medicines on the top shelf. It is in desperate need of a declutter.
Not sure if I’ll get to it today being shopping day but will do my best

I don’t have a broom cupboard! It was in the kitchen but was totally useless. Once you got the ironing board in there, nothing else could fit. It had a shelf on the bottom for the vacuum….impossible to get out beast in. So….we converted it to a 2nd pantry cupboard.

Now the vacuum is kept on the floor in the linen cupboard, I don’t iron so don’t have the ironing board anymore, the broom, mop, bucket are all kept in the laundry between the wall and washing machine. Rags are kept in with the teatowels in the kitchen. Iron is kept in the buffet…with my slow cooker, wok, bread maker etc!

Weird much??!!

Hi Katrina,
Your cupboard looks fantastic and I bet it saves you heaps of time aswell having it so neat and organised! I’m just wondering where you got the wall mount to hang your iron up? Such a great idea.
We’re having our laundry renovated sometime in the future and I will be having a Broom Cupboard installed as we dont have one at the moment. I’d love to have the bits and pieces like that ready to install when it all happens! Thanks again for your daily inspiration.

I don’t have a broom cupboard either. There is an un finished mini room which i think must have held the old hot water service, which is now outside, but we use this for our storage.

My ironing board and clothes airer live in the laundry, between the tub and my fridge (tiny kitchen – fridge is in back area/laundry)I get them out all the time and it’s a struggle trying to get them in and out of the storage room because the door opens inwards of all things! I must be renting the WORST DESIGNED house in the universe! My Kirby lives in a linen closet with no shelves (why??) as it can stands up and i don’t have to take it apart.

My iron lives on top of my washing machine, there are just no cupboards to put anything in! It also means it is with the ironing board so hubby can find it when I seem to have ironed every one of his ten million shirts except the one he wants to wear! 🙂

I don’t have a broom except for outside, I vacuum the hard floors in the house every day. I got into this habit when my baby started crawling around and never stopped. I vacuum after I make the beds each morning.

Because there was not much to do for this challenge I decluttered my tupperware cupboard instead and added it to my 52 things list 🙂

It looks brilliant – well done – I am so thankful to you as now my vaccum cleaner lives in the bottom of our linen cupboard as does the steam mop. They ahve never had homes… they use to just hang around in corners or be shoved from room to room …

common chaos chronicle:
I have a wall hanger just like it – it either came from Bunnings or Howard Stroage World

I too would like to know where your wall hanging things came from.

This would be awesome if i wasnt renting and could screw these hangers onto the cupboard and also if my laundry cupboard wasnt the size of a shoe boz, i have to keep my vacuum in the linen cupboard, that also is the size of a shoebox 🙁

You inspired me, so I’ve been working hard on my broom closet. So far it’s looking splendid! Can’t believe how much extra room I’ve reclaimed.

These closets are so small too, so we need as much as we can get. Good on you!

Mine has tools, bits and pieces (screws and bolts, ties etc) plus the iron, ironing board, broom, mop, dustpan, floaties, sunscreen etc… It’s a two door thingy, one side has shelves, the other is open, with a shelf across the top of both sides.

and if you get the metal version of the iron organiser rather than the plastic coated one, you don’t have to wait until the iron is cold before putting it away!

I got this iron holder many many years ago, I have seen them definitely at Howards Storage World, but like to think you can also get them at Kmart, Big W, Bunnings.

Bec it was so long ago, I can’t remember exactly, but I have seen them at howards storage world, possibly kmart and Bunnings too. It is such a help, keeps the iron tidily away.
