A Great way to save your loose change

As I mentioned in yesterday’s post, we are wanting to go to Disneyland at the end of the year. I’m striving to save some Velocity Frequent Flyer points to possibly use to upgrade seats, which is a great saving. However, another great way to save a little extra money is to empty the coins from your purse, laundry and the couch into a money box. This money box can be dedicated to saving for something fun like an upcoming event, holiday or big ticket item. One of my readers shared with me a really clever idea which I absolutely fell in love with and had to create myself. I am emptying all gold coins that cross my path into our holiday fund! It’s a great visual to see how much we have saved. This can be used to buy souvenirs, unplanned tours or VIP passes for Universal Studios.

What you will need

  • Square 23x23cm Ribba Frame from Ikea
  • A picture that inspires your saving goal
  • Drill
  • Loose change

HOW TO MAKE FRAMED MONEY BOX

Remove all the backing boards and glass from the frame. Pencil an area at the top centre of the frame to drill a hole large enough to fit a 50c coin and thick enough for a $2 coin. I used the drill bit and drilled a hole either end of my pencil area and then holes in-between. I dragged the drill bit across to make this resemble a coin slot as much as I could. I then used a file to smooth the edges. I’m not entirely sure this was the best process, so if you can think of a better way please let me know!

I created a Pinterest board filled with photos to use in the money box and on our inspiration board.

My kids made one for themselves too, which they want to use to purchase souvenirs at Disneyland.
