Keep your home fresh and pet-friendly with my easy routine on how to clean pet blankets, refresh your couch and create a cosy space.
If you’re like me and love having your pets snuggle up on the couch, you’ll know how important it is to keep everything clean and fresh. I have a little routine I follow to refresh the blankets we use to protect the couch and I’ll share the steps below on how to clean pet blankets effectively. It’s simple, but it makes such a difference!
Step 1: Washing the Blankets
I started with a wash using Vamoosh Pet Hair Dissolver, which works wonders to remove all the pet hair from the blankets. I washed on the highest temperature setting to make sure they were properly cleaned.
Since this was a new blanket and its first wash, it left quite a bit of fluff in the washing machine. If you’re washing something similar, don’t forget to give the washing machine a quick clean afterward!
Step 2: Cleaning the Washing Machine
I sprinkled some bicarb soda into the drum, poured vinegar into the fabric softener dispenser, and ran it on a hot cycle. This keeps the machine fresh and ready for the next load of clothes!
Step 3: Sun Drying the Blankets
I dried the blankets on the clothesline in the sunshine. Not only does sunlight leave them smelling fresh, but it’s also great for killing things like dust mites naturally.
Step 4: Cleaning the Couch
While the blankets were drying, I used my trusty Tineco Vacuum Cleaner to give the couch a clean, picking up any pet hair that might have snuck underneath. Although my model is no longer available, Tineco’s newest model is a fantastic upgrade! It’s a wet and dry mop with a handy attachment for cleaning couches and mattresses Check out their latest model here.
After vacuuming, I spritzed the couch with Fabulosa Fabric Freshener to give it an extra burst of freshness.
Step 5: Adding Cosy Touches
Once the blankets were back in place, I lit my newest favourite candle. It’s homemade by a lovely friend I met online her business is called Mumenti, and her candles smell absolutely amazing, even when they’re not burning! Supporting her small business brings me so much joy, and it’s the perfect finishing touch to a cozy, clean space.
Bonus: Cat’s Corner
Our cat, Millee, has a little box she loves to sleep in all day, and I couldn’t leave her out of this refresh. She’s obsessed with her box, it’s her happy place!
