I LOOOOVE cream cheese icing, particularly on top of carrot and banana cake. It's my son's favourite as well, I made him this carrot cake to celebrate his 13th birthday earlier this year. My spoilt boy received 2 cakes, this is the one I made him for his birthday party. This cream cheese icing recipe was handed down to me by my Nan and I have continued to use the same recipe since.
Cream Cheese Icing Recipe
I split the cake in half (cooked in two tins) and doubled the cream cheese icing recipe so I could layer the middle of the cake with more cream cheese icing, you can never have too much of this icing!
Cream Cheese Icing

300g icing sugar
125g cream cheese, cubed
50g butter, room temp
Beat the icing sugar and butter together with an electric mixer until well combined.
Add the cream cheese and beat slowly for 1 minute.
Turn the mixer to medium-high, beating for a further 4 minutes or until icing is light and fluffy.
