How to tame your Junk Mail pile

by Katrina - The Organised Housewife August 5, 2010August 24, 2015

The majority of mail we receive is junk mail.  It is easy to accumulate a mountain of it especially in your busy zones such as the kitchen bench, dining table or the office desk, which makes these area’s look untidy.

How to tame your Junk Mail pile

Take control of your junk mail!  Use one of these examples to rid of your Mt Junk Mail:

  1. As soon as you collect the mail from the mail box, look through your junk mail, it will only take a few minutes then when finished throw  it directly into your recycle bin, you don’t need to keep it.  However, if you have the desire to keep a catalogue put it in a designated place and don’t forget to throw it out when the sale is over.
  2. Leave today’s pile next to the stove top so you can look through them while waiting for dinner to cook.  Place in recycle bin as soon as you have finished.
  3. Read through them during an ad break of a TV show.  Place in recycle bin as soon as you have finished.

I keep a recycle bin in the bottom of the pantry and it get’s emptied each day or so.  The only catalogues I keep are from the grocery store, to help me meal plan over the weekend, I keep it in my intray on my office desk.  The catalogue helps me to see which groceries are on special to write on my shopping list each Sunday night.

junk mail doesn’t even make it past the front door in my place, I have to walk past the wheelie bin on the way in the front door – out it all goes, plus our body corporate doesn’t allow anything other than Aus Post deliveries so we only get random junk mail, never catalogues… I used to miss them, but not any more!

That is a really great idea. I like to cut things out of the catalogues and put them into my vision book (collect items that inspire me or I would like to buy). I might start putting the junk mail into my intray in the office instead of just leaving it on the foot cushion until I go through and cut out what I need. I often find I accumulate too much and then I get annoyed and throw it all out without even looking at it.
Loving your blog by the way. Found it a few weeks ago when looking for ways to be organised at Christmas.

Use a no junk mail sign on your letterbox. If you want to look at the grocery store junk mail it is available online.

There is an app for that! As with most things related for shopping you can find what you want online.
There is one for each supermarket, one that compares supermarkets and another that gives you which products are one sale at half price. Most also include a shopping list
There is no need to keep a hard copy of any supermarket catalogue unless of course you keep recipes or clip pictures. I have reduced the junk meal coming in to the house significantly since I downloaded these

Hi, just came across your blog and oh my god fabulous! I love it how you’ve kept the explanation to minimal and give such basic advice that actually makes a lot of sense! I’m so delighted to find your blog!! Don’t care how you write it, I’ll still read it and be thankful for your help! My organising skills have plummeted during the covid lockdown so I’m feeling not too enthusiastic about doing them. But with my now 1 yr old needing her own room, means my mess bomb office will have to dwindle down to near nothing which will probably be a good think. I won’t be a stresssed looking for certain things or paper work. I need to find a place in my home, they’re just drifter in the paper /certificate/ bills world… drifting at they please from one room to another and then when you try find that one item it’s like playing a game of “where’s Wally/Waldo” and can be quite frustrating. I will have to try your help book and advice as I’m at my wits end but I’m feeling pretty excited about it! Can’t wait to happy look at my organised mess and say yeah… that’s a pretty organised mess.. but it’s organised to my liking. Thanks so much for doing this blog. People like you deserve something like I dunno.. a go fund me page where people can contribute towards your advice and pay it forward as they see fit to show the gratitude it has brought them. Even if it’s only like 1aus dollar/US dollar/euro/pound anything. Just a thank you tip jar to show gratitude I think. I’d be happy to drop a few bits in the tip jar for life saving great living lifestyle and to be just happy everything has its home in its place. So I will be reading into this. And I’m going to put it to action. And will try keep you all posted on my progression. Thanks a mill for this blog!!! Absolute godsend!!

I thought about introducing my review of the Miele I thought about introducing my review of the Miele Triflex HXI Pro with a vacuum joke… but then realised they always suck (sorry, I couldn’t help myself – lol!)

In all honesty though, I have a lot of boxes I like ticked when picking the perfect vacuum cleaner. Visit the link in my bio to see if Miele’s first handstick vacuum managed to tick all these boxes for me!

My day has consisted of a moment of binge watching My day has consisted of a moment of binge watching Firefly Lane. Then running kids around.

I’m putting a candle on to sit for a moment. Then it involves more mums taxi. I’ll cherish these moments though cause they will stop soon enough. Then what am I going to do when I’m not running kids around? Ooh the thought 🤪
White Chocolate and Cranberry Cookies 🍪⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
This recipe was contributed by Tracey (a lovely member of our community!). She suggests using an ice cream scoop to shape the cookies, which should give them a lovely rippled texture on top. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
The base recipe without the white chocolate and cranberries can be used for any alternative ingredients like dark choc bits and macadamias. The full recipe is on my blog! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
PS - I would suggest adjusting the sugar quantities to your own tastes if you prefer cookies to be less sweet! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
