Evening Routine: Part 1 – kids evening routine printable

by Katrina - The Organised Housewife

Last month I talked about getting CHAOS out of your morning routine.  Many of you have been asking for my tips on an evening routine.  Today I’ll start with Part 1, the kids evening routine chart.

I created this chart because I found myself nagging at the kids to pick up toys, pack their school bags etc.  So I created this visual aide for them to refer to and it worked wonders.  After dinner I asked them to go to the toy room (this is where we keep the charts) and complete the list.  Now they have been doing it for years it’s become predictable, they know what needs to be completed without me nagging!!!  Well sometimes I still nag, one of my daughters and I differ in the standard of a tidy room.

About the chart:

Pack school bags – home work is their responsibility, they are to ensure it is placed in their bags each evening along with library books and show & tell.

All toys away – Toys that have been left out around the house are to be picked up and put away

Dirty clothes away – School clothes aren’t to be left on the floor, they belong in the laundry

Brush teeth – Goes without saying they need clean teeth every morning and night

Tidy Bathroom – Towel is to be hung on rack and toilet paper rolls in the bin

15 min Reading – This time is quality time, I spend one on one time with one child each night, the other children will be reading to each other or themselves.

Sweet Dreams – Huge kisses and cuddles every single night as they are tucked into bed.  And hundreds of I love yous!!!

Bedtime can be  a stressful time of the evening, for the whole family with young ones being tired, throwing tantrums or just plain refusing to go to bed.  But it doesn’t have to be that way, all you need is a routine for the kids to learn.  Tomorrow’s post will help you work out a routine to help lower the tantrums and bring calm back into your evenings.
