I’ve been trying to add more fish into our weekly meal plans, and coming up with different and creative ways of serving it. We had a super storm here during the week, wet, cold and miserable and a stew with some crusty bread was the perfect comfort food.
I followed the directions of this recipe from taste.com.au, but my local fish shop didn’t have ling fish, so I used barramundi instead. The dish was a little bland but it has potential. I read the comments of the recipe afterwards and some people suggest to add fish stock instead of water and a bit of curry for some extra flavour. I agree it needed something and these suggestions sound spot on.

A little Cayenne pepper and smoked paprika tastes delicious in fish stew/soup, yum!
Ooh yum!
I generally loathe cooking fish with this exception. My favourite comfort food fish dish is fish or seafood pie. You can use fresh fish, smoked fish or a mixture of seafood (e.g. marinara mix). Just make up a white sauce, mix in the fish/seafood, chopped parsley, chives or other herbs and seasoning to taste, cover the top with mashed potato and brush with melted butter. Bake in a moderate oven until browned on top. Sorry I don’t have a recipe as I don’t use one for this dish but I am sure there are plenty on line!
Oooh yum, I love fish pie too, my Nanna used to make it often but I can not resemble hers it was so good, I remember she put smoked cod in hers too.
