Egg Free Tips

  • Have you heard of ‘No Egg”? You can replace egg in almost all recipes with it.
  • I am an egg allergy sufferer as well. I have found one other easy answer (for me anyway) to the egg problem. Duck eggs! They can be found now in many health food stores. They taste and bake just like chicken eggs. They are not in season all the time, but when they are, it’s a big help. The difference is in the protien. There’s something different because chicken are in the poultry family and ducks are in the fowl family. I haven’t delved fully into understanding the actual science behind it, but I know it works for my family and I. Many of my blood relatives are allergic to chicken eggs as well, and we’ve all be happy with the duck egg solution! It’s worth either talking to a dr. about or just experimenting with, depending on a person’s level of allergy and how adventurous they want to be.
  • My niece is allergic to eggs and they just replace each egg in the recipes with 1 Tbs of cooked mashed pumpkin. Gives it the same moisture without altering the taste.
  •  Pureed apple is meant to work well as an egg replacer as well.
  • Anzac slice/biscuits are egg free.
  • We use the egg replacement stuff that you can buy at any health store that way I could use the recipes I knew and loved. Plus I don’t think it changes the taste at all, so all the kids are happy to eat egg free
  • You can make pancakes with 1 cup milk & 1 cup flour. Nothing else needed! Make the topping sweet or savoury.  If you stack then one on top of the other, with jam, honey, cream – anything really – in between each pancake you get a cake
  • I use yogurt or cream instead of eggs sometimes – taste great more like muffins though
  • Use chia seed – you soak the seed in water which creates a gel which can be used as an egg replacer. It’s incredibly nutritious too.
  • When Miss 8 was little she had an allergy to eggs and I used normal recipes but replaced the egg with 1 tablespoon of white vinegar, don’t know why it works but it does!
  • I use No Egg a natural substitute you buy in the health isle in my baking works just As well. Also use it to bind meatballs ect.
  •  A banana is a great substitute for an egg as it has binding properties which is often what the egg is used for. Sometimes though, the egg is used to make the foods lighter, like sponge cake, so clearly the banana would just not work. I agree with Kim, the internet has a seemingly endless supply of egg free recipes and substitutes.
  •  Egg replacer (ogran brand) works well
  • 4 ingredients have a few recipes for snacks
  • During the wars when my Nana was a girl they used 1 tablespoon of golden syrup in place of each egg in a recipe.
  •  Date loaf is egg free, and would make lovely cupcakes. Google ‘easy date loaf’, there’s a recipe on bestrecipes.com, and i personally would add an extra 250g dates if you can. we love dates.
  • Silken tofu works great in some baked goods as an egg replacement
  • I substitute 1 tblspoon golden syrup per egg in most slices and biscuits
  • I use besan (chickpea) flour to bind meatballs or anything savoury. About 1 tblspoon per egg.
  • My daughter is allergic to eggs and I just replace the egg with banana it works well and sometimes with the ‘No Egg’ but I’m not keen on that!
  •  My favorite easiest recipe is to use a butter or vanilla cake mix and add a tin of fruit (instead of adding the butter egg milk ect) and just cook.. So easy and quick, kids love too
  •  I bought a great book online, One Bowl Allergy Free Baking. Love it!
  • My son is allergic to dairy, soy and eggs. An elderly lady told me to replace an egg in ANY recipe use 1 level dessertspoon of custard powder and 1 tablespoon of milk. This works a dream! My son loves his cupcakes! (I use rice milk for my son).
  • We don’t like the egg replacer…I find it dries cakes out. We have a son who has a severe egg allergy, and we make muffins using the 70 cent home brand cake mix from woolies. I just add 1/4 cup extra milk. You can add anything to them. I’ve used chic chips dried fruit etc! Good luck, you’ll have it sorted in no time!
  •  Please be careful using egg replacers from the supermarket as there are some that still use part of the egg in them ( can’t remember brand ) & while that is often fine for some many others like friends of mine who are highly allergic cannot go near them.
  • I’ve heard of people using a boxed cake mix and just adding a can of soda (pop) to it then baking.
  • a friend told me to soak chia in water and it becomes a gelatinous mass that can be used in the place of eggs, and it can last about a week in the fridge
