This 3 ingredient DIY homemade makeup remover is easy, effective and affordable, plus it’s free from harsh chemicals and leaves the skin feeling super lush!
If you’re looking for an easy way to remove your make-up and mascara at the end of the day (without the extra nasties included in many store-bought cleansers!), then this homemade make-up remover is for you! It’s free from harsh chemicals and preservatives, and leaves my face feeling so good.
I have tried other homemade makeup removers before but have never been very impressed… until now! I absolutely love this DIY makeup remover because it’s super easy to make and it actually works better than store bought ones. There are only three ingredients in this recipe (in addition to the water), and each one packs a pretty little punch when it comes to looking after my skin.
Breakdown Of Ingredients
Fractionated Coconut Oil – I love using the fractionated coconut oil in this recipe because unlike other oils, it leaves my skin feeling super soft and not at all greasy. It’s also has anti-fungal properties, which makes it a very effective oil to use on the skin.
Castile Liquid Soap – the castile liquid soap is naturally hydrating and is good for sensitive, irritated, oily or acne-prone skin. My daughter likes also to add tea tree essential oil to her makeup remover, as it helps with acne-prone skin too.
Frankincense Essential Oil – by adding frankincense essential oil, not only does my makeup remover smell very calming, it also helps strengthen and improve skin tone, and defend against blemishes and bacteria. The fractionated coconut oil also helps the frankincense essential oil to better absorb into the skin.
Washable Facial Pads – I use reusable bamboo facial pads with my makeup remover. They are soft on my skin, help to lift my makeup, and are much more economical and environmentally friendly than the one-use store-bought cotton pads.
How To Make & Use The DIY Makeup Remover
STEP 1 – Once I’ve combined the three ingredients into my pump bottle (I recommend using a funnel to do this – it’s much easier!), I fill the rest of the pump bottle with cooled boiled water. One bottle lasts me about 7-10 days.
STEP 2 – I put 2-3 pumps of my makeup remover on the rough side of a bamboo facial pad.
STEP 3 – I then gently wipe over my eyes and face with the rough side of the pad to remove all my makeup. If I am wearing light day makeup I will only need to use one wipe. For heavier night makeup I use two wipes.
STEP 4 – I then put 1-2 more pumps on the soft side of the bamboo wipe, and do a final once over my entire face.
As you can see, this makeup remover takes all my makeup off with very little effort, and the natural moisturising ingredients leave my skin feeling very soft!
I keep my pump of makeup remover next to two canisters in my bathroom. In one canister I store my clean bamboo facial pads, and in the other I pop my dirty used ones.
TIP: I love these reusable bamboo facial pads because they come in a convenient cotton wash bag. At the end of the week I simply pop all the dirty bamboo pads back in their bag and straight into the washing machine. I have two packs of bamboo facial pads that I alternate between each week, so there are always clean ones ready to go whilst the others are in the wash.
I throw my bag of dirty wipes into the washing machine with my towels. Easy peasy!
