Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 tablespoon peanut oil
  • 1 brown onion, sliced into wedges
  • 12 cups other vegetables, if desired
  • 1kg beef strips
  • 3 teaspoons garlic, minced
  • 2/3 cup beef stock
  • 1 teaspoon cornflour
  • 1/4 – 1/2 teaspoon cracked black pepper, to taste
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon hoisin sauce
  • rice, to serve

Instructions

  1. Heat 1/2 the oil in a large frying pan over medium-high heat.
  2. Cook onion, garlic and other additional vegetables (if desired) for 5 minutes or until soft. Transfer to a bowl.
  3. Add remaining oil, and beef strips (cook beef in 2-3 batches, this makes it easier to brown and beef will be more tender), frying until browned.
  4. Add all beef and vegetables back into pan.
  5. Mix together 1 tablespoon of stock with cornflour.
  6. Combine mixture with remaining ingredients, stock, pepper, soy and hoisin sauce.
  7. Pour into pan and stir until sauce comes to a boil.
  8. Serve with rice.
