Ingredients
- 2 tablespoon peanut oil
- 1 brown onion, sliced into wedges
- 1–2 cups other vegetables, if desired
- 1kg beef strips
- 3 teaspoons garlic, minced
- 2/3 cup beef stock
- 1 teaspoon cornflour
- 1/4 – 1/2 teaspoon cracked black pepper, to taste
- 1 tablespoon soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon hoisin sauce
- rice, to serve
Instructions
- Heat 1/2 the oil in a large frying pan over medium-high heat.
- Cook onion, garlic and other additional vegetables (if desired) for 5 minutes or until soft. Transfer to a bowl.
- Add remaining oil, and beef strips (cook beef in 2-3 batches, this makes it easier to brown and beef will be more tender), frying until browned.
- Add all beef and vegetables back into pan.
- Mix together 1 tablespoon of stock with cornflour.
- Combine mixture with remaining ingredients, stock, pepper, soy and hoisin sauce.
- Pour into pan and stir until sauce comes to a boil.
- Serve with rice.
