I decorated my sons room back in 2011. He has just celebrated his 11th birthday (ooh he’s growing up so fast) and asked if he could change a few things in his room.
Thankfully he still loves his painted wall and bed cover. But he asked if I could change the framed pictures. He used to love Star Wars The Clone Wars, but he has outgrown this and now enjoys The Simpsons.
We purchased a 2014 Simpsons Calendar for 75% off at a local department store which cost $4… bargain! The calendar was filled with fun and bright images that could easily be trimmed and used for new pictures in the frames.
I used 3M Command Strips (RRP $6.99) when I put his frames up a few years ago. I chose to use these 3M Picture Hanging strips just in case he didn’t want them on his wall anymore. They can easily be removed without damaging the walls. I use 3M strips and hooks all through my home, in cupboards, to hold up ribbon in my gift wrapping station, our family photo wall, even in my shower and so many more places!!
The strips come in either black or white, ideally black are for dark frames and white for light frames. However I have chosen white strips so you can easily see how they would sit on the back of the frame. There is also a variety of different sized stripes, the largest can hold up to 7kg.
Instructions on the pack recommend cleaning the surface with isopropyl rubbing alcohol. This can be found at the hardware store, chemists or I use Isocol found in the beauty aisle at the supermarket.
We used a laser level to ensure they all lined up straight
The new pictures look great, so fun and bright. This was a really quick and easy mini makeover!

Since son # 1 has moved out of home – we are about to embark on a major bedroom reshuffle ! Daughter # 1 will move into son # 1’s room, Son # 2 will move into Daughter # 1’s room and Daughter # 2 will stay in her existing room. Son # 2’s room will become a storeroom.
We are repainting and recarpeting ALL of the bedrooms (starting with son # 1’s old room). Daughter # 1 and I have already started planning her new room. She is very crafty and loves to display her artwork and photographs. She received some lovely inspirational prints for Christmas ( purchased from The Organised Housewife) and these have been housed in plain white frames. She is ITCHING to get these up on her wall. Much as I love seeing things on walls – I always cringe at the thought of the damage to our lovely new paintwork.
A 3M COMMAND GIFT PACK couldn’t come at a better time to facilitate all our upcoming bedroom makeovers !
We have just moved to a new house and i really want to make some family picture walls so these would be perfect as i don’t want permanent hooks or holes anywhere!
I would finally put up all my wedding photos and pictures of my daughter and current expecting #2 in frames all around our house as our walls are very plain. We have been living there for 5 years so its about time 🙁
At last I’d decorate my sons room, he’s 11. I’ve never done it, always wanted to do it and now I actually MUST do it.
Ivwould put up some charts and inspirational saying in my office and use the hooks to get stuff of the office desk
Remodeling one room at a time, due to a flood.Command strips will be great for the newly painted walls! So helpful for organizing each room, your blog is the best!
Just moved to a new home. Son and daughter (both 11) want to put up their fav pics. While their little sisters (both 8, yep 2 by 2 LOL) now have a chance to decorate their own way. Wall loving Command strips would be a huge help 🙂
I’ve got some lovely black and white photos of Mum, myself and my 3 year old. Would love to get around to hanging them up, this would definitely be the motivation I need! 🙂
I have so many pics to hang this would be a great start, I RENT!
I would use it to hang pictures I bought from overseas 14 years ago, and family photos we had taken last year.
I would use them to make my family photo wall that I have been waiting to do since we moved into our new house nearly a year ago
With a two year old coming home from preschool every week with more artwork it would be great to put some frames in her room so I can rotate the artwork
Oh bliss! I’d use them to finally get my family portraits, travel photography and art posters up on our walls. We’ve been in our new home for 7 months now and still have bare walls!
Hi
I am just about to start updating my son’s bedroom. He is now 4 and wants it to look like a BIG boys room so we would love to hang some of his artwork & favourite posters of NInja Turtle’s & Transformers 🙂
I would use it everywhere as we have just moved from our own home into a rental and don’t want to damage the walls! These would come in VERY handy at the moment!
We have moved into our new home a couple of months ago and have just recently finished painting both my sons (4 and 2 yrs) feature wall. I made them an MDF rocket, helicopter & airplane a while ago and the boys keep asking me when they’ll get to put them up.
The great thing about the 3M Command Gift Pack is that the boys will be able to help pur these on the wall themselves, no hammers, so little hands can help! 🙂
I have degrees, certificates and awards languishing in the cupboard. It’s time I made “The Progress of Success” mural on a wall to inspire the children to achieve to add to it! 3M COMMAND STRIPS would be just the trick on our solid brick walls!
(As well as that laser level…)
I would use them to decorate the new nursery. At the moment, it’s plain jane boring and resembles Kennards Storage more than a nice homely nursery!
i would use them to decorate my house with pictures of my family! Dont have many up as we live in a rental house and arent allowed to hammer nails into the wall so this would be absolutely fantastic!
I would use them to hang pictures of my new bub! We have a big photo wall in the living room, and I need to rearrange and put up new frames for all the beautiful photos of bub no 2 🙂
My daughter loves creating artwork and we have a couple of cracks in the kitchen walls so I’d kill two birds with one stone and hang up all her artwork and hide the cracks at the same time!
I’d love to hang my favourite picture – the Sydney Swans holding up the 2012 Premiership cup!
Putting all our pictures up in our new house when we finally move in!! This Command gift pack will go to great use that’s for sure.
To give me the push and wriggle on I need to finally hang all the pics up that are neatly in a pile in the spare room, waiting for me.
A cupboard cleanout unearthed an amazing find..my husbands’ father’s army papers. Love his signature and also signature of his father giving him permission to enlist. They can now be returned to a box or drawer or framed and displayed. I think, with a little imagination, they would look great framed with a photo of him. I am sure his grandchildren and great grandchildren will discover and become interested in family history they did not know existed.
I just joined!! 😀 YAY And I love this whole set up and how amazing you can make every part of a home so organised and family friendly. I spent most of today looking through all of the ‘organising by room’ ideas and have become inspired to make my house look just as fabulous! I would use this pack to make the family mural and maybe even change the theme of my bedroom just for fun 🙂 Thank you so much for inspiring me and also making cleaning actually sound like fun!
Just over two years ago my lovely husband gave me five small canvas frames (the first letter of each family member, designed to look like giant scrabble tiles as we are a scrabble-loving family, and a heart) and he suggested that maybe I could do something creative with them. It was a perfect gift, and I’ve been planning the perfect creative use for them for much of the past two years. I decided to make them part of a huge artwork, so I’ve now got 25 canvas frames, all 6″ x 6″, and I’ve had dozens of our family photos printed onto canvas that I will arrange into a big textured collage (if that makes sense – hard to describe my creative vision!). I am so excited to get it done and on display! I have been wondering how to fix them to the wall as I don’t exactly want 25 holes, so this 3M Command gift pack would be perfect.
Have just recently moved into a new home (YAY!) so all of the family photos need to be hung around the house – this would be the perfect solution!
We are a very arty family and I need a solution for storing all our new
art works quickly and easily and so they look great. Currently I use
bluetac straight on the walls but this damages the pictures and the
walls on removal. Ideally I would likes series of different sized
frames on the wall but have been reluctant as the pictures need to be
changed monthly and I would be left with lots of hooks in the wall in
the wrong places.
Seems like 3M have the solution I have been
looking for! I could hang pictures in frames with the 3M photo strips
and when I am ready to rearrange the wall remove the strips (without
damaging the wall) and place the new pictures wherever they look best.
Yay!
I need them to have all my new beautiful little prep girl’s art work and favourite pictures in her playroom. I want to fill it with pictures but dont want to put nails in the walls because I am sure we will get over the busy walls as some point.
My daughter got a beautiful canvas photo of her great great aunt when she was a little girl in the early 1920’s. We’re just about to do up both my son’s and daughter’s rooms and would love to hang her beautiful picture up. I also want to do birth details pics for both my kids so the 3M Command Gift Pack would come in handy!
I would use 3M Command Gift Pack for lots of different things – hanging pictures on the wall, hanging white board with the tasks / menu/ chore chart on the wall, hanging decorations on the wall for Valentine’s day, I would use it do decorate room for birthday celebrations (use hooks on the wall to attached the balloons to or hang up Happy birthday sign), hang photo frames and much more. Last Christmas I even used some of 3M Command hooks to hang the Christmas lights on the wall and everybody loved this idea! I love 3M Command products as they save our walls, time and money!
Both my daughters bedrooms and their study area’s need updating.. the 3M Command Gift Pack would be excellent to help achieve this quickly, (rather than it going on the to-do list that never gets done). I hate having to put nails in the walls as it is guaranteed that where I want to put something there is never a stud. If it isn’t centered correctly it drives me crazy which is why our lounge room walls are no longer covered in photo’s, I couldn’t stand them not being where I wanted them…
I probably would use it in my kitchen in my cabinets to utilize space as I have very few drawers/cupboards. I have also started using them whenever I want to hang something that doesn’t necessarily need a nail.
We have lot of photo frames that need to be hung. 3m pack would be just the perfect thing.
I would use the 3M for the photo’s my boys want to put up on their walls, the awards they win and the teaching posters they roll under their beds (out of sight, no need to learn)
We moved house 12 months ago and we still have some framed photos stashed in the linen closet that really should be put up.
for economical pictures in frames I also use kids wrapping paper and cut out the parts they like to put in a frame. When he was very young we did all sorts of Tractors, recently we just changed it to Minecraft pics. I will have to try these 3M hanging thingy’s though.
Since both of my parents have passed away i would put their photos in our living where i can see them everydsy!
I would re-hang EVERYTHING!!! Especially my new command center stuff!
I’d make a memory wall down our hallway and full it with framed photos of our favourite memories and I’d finish organising the bathroom by making better use of the wall space.
I would be able to finally put up all the photos lying in drawers
I’m scared of using a drill. This way I could get a great big picture frame and put all the crazy photos of my little family up to show the world how mad we really are. Oh and would be able to hang my child’s whiteboard.
I’m a renter, in Sydney, in a ‘study’ sized room. It would allow me to liven up the small space renter style!
What a great giveaway! We moved into our house 9 years ago and still haven’t put any pictures on the walls because we didn’t know where we wanted to hammer in the hooks. I would use the picture strips to finally hang up our wedding photo and photos of our 4 kids so that our house finally looks like a home. At the moment all our photos are stored on the computer and not even printed! I would use the mini hooks to hang some Christmas lights for the first time this year, and the medium hooks to hang the kids’ towels on as we don’t have enough towel rails for 6 people! I don’t have much bench space in the kitchen so the utensil hooks would come in handy too 🙂
With 3M Command, I could hang framed kids’ photos or art prints on the hallway wall without damaging the surface. Also the old drill holes could be covered up by the frames.
We have a great many pictures and embroideries to rehang after repainting. plus my Mum is just about to move from her home into rental aged care and we are looking to be able to hand her favourites for her in her new home. this prize would benefit 2 families…..
To avoid arguments with my other half about drilling holes into the walls and finally get around to hanging photos, momentums and pictures on our bare walls
Great for pictures but would love to try it for small stitchery wall hanging and other fabric décor.
We rearranged our house a few months back to make a playroom. My son started Kindy this year so I’d love to use the pack to display his artwork there. Also we now need a command centre so they’d be helpful there too.
The kids love to create and draw. Some of the ideas they come up definitely need keeping for posterity and displayed on their walls. Instead of being filed away in a art folder, unseen and unappreciated, I would love to frame some of them and put them up around the house. And how proud the kids would feel seeing their works of art taking pride of place. The beauty and ease of the 3M Command system means I could have it done whilst the kids are at school and not have to wait for a spare 2 minutes on the weekend when hubby isn’t busy.
I’ve been looking for some ideas to display my kids art…. and being in a rented house means I have to be very careful about what I stick on the walls so they don’t get damaged! I would use the idea of sticking frames up on the walls and then be able to insert my little boys drawings or my little girls sticker ‘drawings’ free from worry about damaging the wall! 🙂
as an already avid 3M command junkie i would finally hang some pictures up in my boys rooms and my own room seeing as we rent ive been slow getting that done this time around!! time for some new artwork!!
At the moment my house is having an entire renovation make over. These hooks would be a great help at putting up photos in the lounge to give the room back its homey feeling. 🙂 It would make me extremly happy to see photos up around the lounge and it would take my mind off the dust and dirt I am living with at the moment. Lots of plastering/sanding/painting and staining going on around here. not including the dust from the demolition and construction of new rooms.
We have just finished doing some painting inside and my walls are blank! I would love this prize pack so i can decorate the walls with photos and art and not cause any damage. Need to make the house look more like a ‘home’!
I have been thinking about giving my son’s room a makeover for a while now. His father is extremely unwilling to do anything around the house, not even paint a wall, so a quick and easy update like you have done above, would be really great.
Lath and Plaster are not fun to deal with when it comes to hanging up pictures. Let alone the face that all of our outside walls have no studs to speak of. I would finally be able to have pictures and art on the walls. The hooks would be very helpful with organizing my kids toys. They like to put them in lingerie bags and the existing hooks are just too high to reach.
I would hang the hooks on my dressing table mirror to hang my beads and necklaces on. Very handy to see if the beads go with my outfit and they won’t get tangled in a jewellery box. I would use the picture hanging strips by finally hanging my shadow boxes of pictures and mementos of my kids when they were younger. The mini clear hooks would help me to organise the tangle of cords behind the computer by hooking them onto the back of the desk. The utensil hooks would be used to clear my bench tops from tubs of utensils….that’s if my husband doesn’t ‘borrow’ them for the shed. 🙂
Our real estate won’t let us put holes in the walls to hang pictures. Would love to be able to put some family photos and art on our walls. White walls are very uninspiring. The 2 girls are both artistic and would love to hang some of their pieces. Please consider us !
Surprise my Stage Manager daughter with a wall of framed programs, posters & tickets from the various shows she’s worked on.
We’ve just re-painted our kitchen walls. I’d use the Command white hanging strips to hang two clipboards, one for my weekly meal plan and the other for my shopping list and a document holder where I store take-away menus. I’d use the black hanging strips to hang some old black and white and colourised prints/photos of family members in the hallway (I’ve been meaning to do this for a while now). I would place the medium sized white hooks in my walk in wardrobe and would hang small evening purses from them. I would use the large hanging strips in white to re-hang my favourite print, titled ‘grumpy girl’, so she sits in the centre of the wall. I would use the clear mini hooks to string up some ABC’s (with the help of some cotton) in my son’s bedroom. I would use the utensil hooks to hang his chalk bags (white and multi-coloured) and a cloth for wiping from the underside of his chalkboard/easel. Thanks for the opportunity to enter!
Hi
I am a school teacher and could definitely use the 3M products to fix various semi permanent things to the walls, such as job charts, birthday charts, frames, hoocks to hang hats on etc. etc etc. I love 3M products and use them regularly but winning some would be fabulous!!!
We have just purchased a new house, and as I am still very new to being organised (I am hopeless – especially hard with packing going on), this would make our new start in our new place even better by helping us start off on the right foot!!!
I’ve lived in this house for nearly two year and not a single frame has been put up, that’s two years of hearing “I’ll do it soon”. 3M Command looks so easy to use, I could do it myself, it’s the only way it will actually get done!!
My house is in disarray,
from kitchen to wall.
3M Command can handle them all.
My bedroom makeover will have a display home look,
with all these strips and hooks.
ARGHH! THE POSSIBILITIES ARE ENDLESS! BUT FIRST UP I’D BE TACKLING MY SON’S BEDROOM WALLS AS THEY’RE IN DESPERATE NEED OF A FRESH PAINT AND THEN I’LL BE SUPERVISING THE HANGING OF HIS VARIES POSTERS, PICTURES, ETC.
I have so many photo`s just sitting in my photo box and none on my walls we have freshly painted walls so I am too scared to hammer holes in them , I would use the gift pack to display the photos of my beautiful family !!
I’d frame and decorate the playroom with the kids artwork – there is nothing more homely than adding a personalised touch to a room.
The 3M picture strips
Would surely fix
The art I need to display
While the 3M hooks
Have functionality *and* looks
I wouldn’t have it any other way!
I’d probably copy the simpsons idea. Its brillant.
what a great idea!! I would use my pack to replace all the nails in my walls that keep getting bigger as I readjust or replace my photos…..
Love these hooks – would love to try the strips to hang a couple signs and a calendar on our doors!! Used a hook on our front door to hang our wreath and it worked wonderfully!!!
We’re in a new house and hubby doesn’t want a bunch of nail holes.
Grandkids pics need hung – they’re leaning against a ledge now. Hooks inside
Closets make a place to hang keys and other necessities.
These hooks are fantabulous!!
thanks for reminding me of this will be using this idea for both my boys rooms as we have just moved into the house we have built
and calendars are out now too so you have a good selection of designs to choose from.
