My hubby was given a coffee machine for his birthday, however, we didn’t have the space for it in our kitchen. In order to keep it on the kitchen bench I have needed to rearrange the small space we have near our electrical points. This is also where I used to charge our phones etc.

I needed to create a different solution for organising and storing all the power cords for our phones, iPads and Nintendo DS’s. Whilst I had seen recharge stations to purchase that I loved, I also loved the idea of creating my own.
I wanted to make something similar to an idea I had seen online, where they converted a bread bin into a recharge station.

A phone recharge station
I found this wooden breadbox in store at Howards Storage World

Together with my dad we drew rectangles large enough to fit the iPhone cable through, drilled holes on the corner of each rectangle, then chiseled through to create our holes.

I lined the inside by covering cardboard with fabric

I’ve put our new recharge station in a shelf that is easy to access. I have placed the power board next to the bread box so I can switch the power adapters off when not in use.

I love it, it’s tidy and works perfectly for us.

That is pretty neat!
I’m happy because it’s all tidy J
Wow. I am going to make one. I have cables all over the place and the very idea of keeping everything in one spot is awesome.
It really is, will make them all tidy and having the separate rectangles prevents them from tangling.
I love it this is fantastic Kat. A great DIY project for my hubby!!!
That’s right, and what I love about this bread bin is I could paint it too if I change our room design.
That is awesome!!!
Nifty idea isn’t it J
A recharge station has been on my to-do list for months, maybe this is the inspiration I need to get it done this weekend, I’ve got everything, I just need time!
fantastic idea – love it!
Thank you, it wasn’t too hard to put together, I love how it keeps it al organised.
We are getting a new kitchen soon and a phone charge station is on the list. Its great to get some new ideas. Thanks.
and you could use your ‘bread clip labels’ to label each cord so you know what you are switching off, just to keep the whole bread theme going lol 🙂
Absolutely!!!! Fantastic idea!
Next time you’re in Brisbane with nothing to do, can you come to my house to figure something out for me?
LOL, what do you need figuring out?
A similar thing would be a starter, but if your up to a real challenge you can have free range of the whole house.
Great Idea, and arn’t Dads awesome!
It was probably something I could of done myself, it was just nice to spend time with my dad J
I’ve just labelled all my cords at the plug so I know which is which at the ends near the PowerPoint.
Wish my hubby could do this. He’s not much of a handy man….if you made them and sold them make sure you post the site somewhere cause I would certainly be your first buyer!!
I don’t, however if you visit your local hardware, perhaps they could help you?
Maybe you could try your local “Men’s Shed” they are usually happy for a small project.
And you could put a lock on it so little ones don’t try and pull everything out.
That’s a great idea, I like that I can close the bread lid even with the phone’s charging, the iPad fits in sideways.
fabulous idea!
Thank you Sura 😉
We re-purposed a drawer in our kitchen dresser for our charging station, It is great, everyone knows where the chargers are, they are plugged in and ready to go and I can close the drawer and not look at them! Great idea using the bread box too!
Fantastic idea! I would love to see a photos if you have time to email me one J
That is brilliant!
That’s a fantastic idea. i may have to re-purpose my breadbin, which hasn’t actually had bread in it for several years. Keep the brilliant ideas coming, thank you 🙂
I love repurposing, finding new ideas for old things, have fun making yours 😉
A super idea Katrina .
Thank you Trish J
Love it!! We have cables and chargers everywhere…
It wasn’t too hard to make Sue, something worth considering for your cables?
Thank you, I love how it keeps all our cables neat and tidy.
That looks great Katrina and so neat and tidy! Love the fabric you’ve added to the inside. If you wanted to hide the powerboard, you could always use some command strips to attach it to the back. You’d still be able to access it, but it would be hidden from immediate view.
I was initially going to do that, but I like to switch of at the power point when I have finished charging, so I need it accessible. I love the fabric too J
Oh. My. Goodness! THANK YOU! Never losing my phone charger / camera charger again will add hours to my week! 🙂
LOL, happy to help J
Cool. We have so many electrical gadgets, it would be nice to have a central location to recharge them all.
It is, cameras, kids technical items, list is endless really
Aww man! That is AWESOME! We need that in our house. We’ve got lots of powerpoints but it looks messy to have things all over the place. Might highlight this idea to my husband to make something similar.
It’s just a great organised space, you could hide the cables as suggested in one of the other comments, however I like the easy access to turn the cables off when not in use.
This is fabulous, I so need to get onto something like this. Thanks for the inspiration.
Your very welcome x
You are a freakin genius x
Lol, thank you J
Fabulous idea!! I’m going to do that too. Have you got any ideas for how to hide all the cables from back of tv that run down to the floor. So ugly and I’m sick of them!!
Awesome! Thanks for this Katrina! I’m off to Howard’s storage world tomorrow to see what I can do!
Love it! I love items that help to organize!
This has given me an idea. I have been given a “chicken hutch” from an elderly man. He made it for me before he passed away. It was made to hold my eggs. But I have since been told eggs should be kept in the fridge. I could use that as a phone charged spot….
This is pure genius!!
This also works for children putting down electronics before bed. All tech things charging by 9pm means less fights about switching off devices. Works a treat – visual and non-confronting!! Great charging station!!
Thank you Laraine! Yes i agree with the children before bed.
We have one too – we must have been looking at the same sites, but my husband ended up making one from basic chipboard and painting it. Turned out very well, and such a relief to have the clutter away!
i bought a bread box for this purpose but it’s become our “papers” file. I think I need to look for another!
