I don’t use my dryer too much during the warmer months, as we live on the Gold Coast and get a lot of sunlight. Although, during winter my clothesline does not get enough sun to dry my clothes and I have to use the dryer.  Although, I have found these wool balls especially great during winter for rainy days, or weeks when I have a lot of laundry to get through.wool dryer balls how to use with your clothes

How to use the wool dryer balls

  1. I like adding laundry tonic essential oils to the balls when drying clothes, sheets,  towels etc as it gives them a boost of fragrance. Some oils can stain the balls, but this won’t affect how they work. I add more drops to the balls after every second tumble in the dryer.
  2. Simply pop all six wool dryer balls in a dryer load – and turn the dryer on.

Laundry tonic is a delightful blends of essential oils to add to your wool dryer balls to help make your laundry smell amazing.

Benefits of Wool Dryer Balls

Reduces drying time (and your power bill!)
the wool balls absorb excess moisture whilst also creating air pockets that result in better circulation and a more even distribution of heat.

Reduces static & wrinkles (and ironing time, yay!)
the balls help prevent tangling of clothes in most dryers, and this combined with the increased moisture absorption and circulation means less static and wrinkles.

They last and last and last
it’s estimated that one set of wool balls will last for 1,000 dryer loads – which is your lifetime and then some – meaning you will never have to buy them again.

No wasteful dryer sheets
save money on buying dryer sheets, use wool balls instead because these little babies do it all!

Smell delicious
when combined with a few drops of essential oil, these balls leave linen, towels and clothes smelling gorgeous.

Wool dryer balls

Your questions answered

How do wool dryer balls work?
Wool balls create space between your clothes in the dryer, which allows for more air circulation. This increased airflow helps to reduce drying time, save energy and soften your clothes. The dryer balls absorb moisture and then release it back into the dryer as the hot air moves around, which also helps to reduce static electricity, soften fabric, and minimise wrinkles.

Are wool dryer balls better than dryer sheets?
Wool dryer balls are an eco-friendly and effective alternative to traditional dryer sheets, which can contain harsh chemicals and contribute to environmental waste.

How many dryer balls do you put in the dryer at a time? Reduces drying time (and your power bill!)
Typically, it is I use all six balls in the dryer at a time. This will help to reduce static and create better air circulation, which can speed up drying time.

Do dryer balls wear out?
Yes, they can wear out over time due to regular use. However, the lifespan of dryer balls can vary depending on the type of material they are made of. I have over 1,000 uses with my wool dryer balls.

When do I need to replace my wool dryer balls?
Signs that your wool balls may need replacing include a loss of shape, pilling or shedding of fibers. If you notice any of these signs, it may be time to replace your balls.

Why are my dryer balls not working?
If your dryer is overloaded, your balls may not have enough space to move around and fluff your fabrics. This can result in longer drying periods and less effective results.

How many drops of essential oil do I add?
the number of drops of essential oil you should add to your wool balls depends on the type and strength of the oil, as well as personal preference. I generally add 2-3 drops of laundry tonic to each dryer ball every 2nd use.

Can I use wool dryer balls in a heat pump dryer?
Yes, wool dryer balls can be used in a heat pump dryer. Interestingly, they can be more effective in this type of dryer since heat pump dryers work by recycling warm air.

Where should I store my wool dryer balls?
When not in use, it’s best to store your balls in a dry, well-ventilated area.
