{Organise} Tasks to complete through school holidays

List to be organised for returning back to school Term 3

As of 3pm this afternoon my kids are on school holiday’s!!!!  I love school holiday’s, I may have mentioned before, sleep in’s,
lazing in PJ’s all morning, mostly love not having to make school lunches, I’ll do alot of baking with the kids, as they usually like to eat everything fresh but also to restock the freezer with some muffins and cookies.

But…during the holiday’s I like to do the following to be prepared for the first day in the following term. I do most of these jobs through the week, however in the holiday’s I make sure I get into all the nooks and crannies.

  • Vacuum out school bags with the brush attachment
  • Give school bags a wipe down with liquid detergent and warm water, hang on the line to dry
  • Give insulated lunch bags a wipe down, brush through the zipper area to get all the trapped food, allow to dry
  • Give the ice bricks a good wash
  • Give the drink bottles a good scrub inside and out
  • Wash shoes with a damp cloth, allow to dry, sprinkle with bicarb to remove any smells and polish
  • Soak their school socks (they are white) in nappy san for a day and wash, this will get them back to a crisp white removing alot of dirt that doesn’t come out in the normal wash
  • Mend uniforms
  • Tidy up their hair tie’s, see organising hair ties HERE
  • Tidy up the homework area, see organising school papers HERE
  • Try and use up as much pantry food as I can
  • Restock the freezer with more baking for lunchboxes

Task to complete to prepare for the school holidays

  • Schedule groceries to be home delivered
  • Reschedule any regular appointments you have during the school hours (eg, gym sessions)

I pop our insulated bags in the wash with the towels, they come up nice 🙂

I also really need to restock the hair ties. I am probably jinxing myself by saying this, but I seem to have starved the sock pinching fairy to death, or maybe they are just surviving on a diet of hair ties now with the hair tie stealing fairy … either way I need to buy more hair ties LOL

I can never get my son’s school socks back to white!! Even after soaking in napisan & washing- they still have dirt stains 🙁 He spends every spare minute at school in the sandpit (which is basically just sandy dirt!) so all his socks & school clothes have dirt stains- anyone have any other suggestions? Thanks in advance!!

Mandy, I use napisan and leave to soak in the washing machine for 2-3 hours. But it seems you have already tried this. What about bleach?

Do you grocery shop online all the time, Katrina?

Katrina July 19, 2011 - 9:41 AM

No not all the time, my favourite online shop is Coles over Woolworths. I found when I shopped online with woolworths and if they didn’t have an item in stock they do not give you the refund, it is then credited to your account. I’d prefer the money in my pocket not their’s like Coles does. There are a few pro’s and con’s I think this is definatelly a post worthy topic!
