{Organise} Reading material in the bathroom

A clever way to keep magazines and books tidy and clean in the bathroom.

Ok, I’m super embarrassed to admit, but in the aim of providing organising tips to you all, I am revealing one of my guilty pleasures. I am not a book reader, but I do love to read magazines.  However, I never get time to read them as I am with the kids, blogging or doing tasks around the house.  When I relax, I prefer to watch TV and when my head hits the pillow I instantly fall asleep…..so my bathroom breaks are when I catch up on my fav mags.  Come on…I am sure there are a few of you that read on the loo too……lol.

I have this thing though that I don’t like the magazines touching the floor.  Whilst you could have a magazine rack on the floor I prefer to have a wall mounted rack making cleaning the floors so much easier.

I use 2 heavy duty 3M hooks to hold a magazine basket to the wall.

How do you store your bathroom reading material?

Katrina I really love this idea! I am not an avid loo reader (I don’t usually get to go to the loo by myself! lol) But the Handyman is and I hate his magazines on the floor. I have a set of shelves in the corner for towels and I reserve the bottom shelf for his reading material but I much prefer your method! So much prettier.

I love this idea! We have a magazine rack on the floor, but it’s a nuisance having to move it to clean. Not to mention the ever-present risk of the man of the house umm… missing his target!!

It’s a very pretty magazine basket but – I have a strict policy of loo reading materials:
WHAT GOES IN N E V E R COMES OUT!!(except to the recycling bin!)

My husband used to like reading in the loo despite my expressed hygiene concerns til one day i found a library book in there and in front of him I asked the librarian if she would like me to pay for the book after I disinfect it or would like to accept the loo travelled book returned as-is.

I can only wonder if you have time to read in the loo can I suggest more water intake and a fibre supplement??

My personal choice for reading space is during many (not all, must dutifully watch sometimes LOL) sport & soccer practice sessions, gymnastics, scouts, ventures, get to the doctors 15min early, or McBurgers playgrounds for a coffee for me and icecream cone if they behave!!

On another note- If anyone wants to declutter their non-loo reading collection most hospitals(maternity, rehab, etc) will gladly accept magazines as part of their occupational therapy program (my friend was confined to bed in hospital for the last six weeks of her pregnancy – she said that the mags kept her sane!!)

I have the most awesome magazine rack in our toilet. If I knew how to upload a pic to show you, I would!

And yes, magazines on the floor is a bit icky!

How long do your mags stay there before you refresh the selection? We normally have Coles Baby, Australian Geographic, Fishing World and Readers Digest as our selection. As they are all subscriptions, they are refreshed as the new edition comes in the mail!

What a beautiful magazine holder! You may have just solved the ongoing debate in our house about whether or not the toilet should be home to reading material…. do you mind if I ask where the basket came from? Thanks!

It pains me to admit that I am the guilty magazine loo reader in our house, to be fair hubby doesn’t read full stop, but he does take phone calls in there (a whole new realm of gross). In my defence its the only time I can manage five minutes to myself and I agree, on the floor is no good at all, love this, thanks for sharing kat. I usually hide mine in the vanity until I throw them out 🙂

I agree – not good to have the books on the floor. I used a plastic magazine holder – the sort you would get from a stationers and it is mounted with screws on the back of the toilet door. You can only see it once you are in the toilet. I have found it great because you also have to limit the amount of reading material you have in there at one time!

I purchased it from Target a few months prior to writing the blog post. Gorgeous isn’t it.
