Exciting changes ahead

by Katrina - The Organised Housewife

I am giddy with excitement to share with you some fabulous new changes on the blog, but mostly one very big change for The Springer Family!!

Changes on the Blog

Firstly I will share with you some great improvements I have made to the blog:

  • I have created a home page for the blog, desktop and on mobile. I had to do this to make the mobile version more user-friendly. I love the home page, making it easier for you to navigate.  But as you are the reader, I would love to hear your feedback, do you like it, does it make reading the blog easier, or is it a hassle that you can’t read the blog posts directly when you open the blog?
  • I have tidied up the recipe pages, again trying to make it more user friendly, easier to find the recipe you are after.  But don’t forget you can always type the name into the search box in the sidebar.
  • And finally I now accept credit card payment in my shop.  Now with 2 payment options paypal and credit card.
  • Don’t forget to visit the Christmas page where I have made it really easy to find all things Christmas on The Organised Housewife

Changes for The Springer Family

No there is no new addition to the family if that’s what you were thinking (my days for that are over), we are moving house in 2 weeks! We started looking to move 18 months ago. I was procrastinating (as I do very well) about renovating our kitchen, but then decided that we wanted a house closer to the kids school so I put the kitchen reno on hold. We looked and looked and then learnt that I am very picky and particular.  As my hubby and I both work from home we wanted a room large enough for us to work in, this proved to be very hard as many in home offices are only large enough for one desk.  For the past 18 months, every weekend we would go to open homes, but the last September school holidays I told my hubby I’m over looking, the wasteful weekends and just the unknown was becoming very draining. But we were looking forward to a change so we broadened our search to areas just outside of the school zone to see what was available. Scott found a house and wanted to take a look.  I nearly didn’t go, I was over it, but I reluctantly went.  Well, wouldn’t you know it, this house was perfect, a space for everything we needed, I am so pleased, we purchased the house!!!!

But then that meant we needed to act quickly and sell the house we are currently living in. So the day we signed the contract on the new house, I purchased some boxes and started packing up this house to get it ready for sale. I will share all the details of that later, possibly in February, as I am sharing Christmas posts throughout December and as always I will give you my Back to School tips in January.

I am so glad that I have finally been able to tell you we are moving. This all happened a few weeks ago and very quickly. However, for our privacy (the kids mainly) I didn’t say anything until we received a contract of sale on the house we are living in. Although our real estate agent said he would have loved readers viewing the house on inspection day, he had a vision of a line up of people wanting to look inside the pantry and linen cupboards LOL.

So for the past few weeks I have been at the new house with contractors, the carpets needed replacing, a bit of electrical work needed doing and I wanted to give the house a fresh coat of paint. I found a crisp white, which again, is another story I will share, I tell you it feels like there are 50 shades of white which makes it so confusing.

I’ll be switching off my computer end of next week, packing it up for the move, give me a week and then I’ll be back online, but I will check in on the iPad to say hello. However I will still have the Christmas blog posts publishing every day, I have been working really hard lately and have scheduled them all in for you.

Follow me on Instagram as I will start to share photos of our moving adventures.

Please give some feedback on the blog and mobile home page

Please don’t forget to give me some feedback on the home page, let me know if you viewing it on mobile or desktop, your feedback is so very valuable and I love always getting to say hello to you in the comments πŸ™‚

Hello – congrats on the new house, very exciting! I’m reading this post on my iPhone (with latest software update, in case that’s important!), and the post doesn’t quite fit on the screen, so you need to move it left to right as you go along to get the end/start of the lines. Sorry if I’m the bearer of bad news – it’s so frustrating getting websites to work on all platforms. It won’t stop me reading your blog tho! πŸ™‚

Oh – after the comment was posted, the website resized perfectly for the iPhone screen! I’m not sure why. I arrived at your site via bloglovin’ ., in case that’s useful πŸ™‚

I’m viewing on my PC and only comment is when I went to your home page, I can’t seem to see a “search” box. I’ve had to click on another page to bring up the sidebar… just a bit of feedback. All the best!!!

I like the changes! Oh I would so like to hear how you move. I have moved and moved and moved over the years in different life stages, with kids, pregnant, very pregnant, with newborns, with more kids and every time despite my best intentions, it is the most horrid experience and it takes me more than 6 months to settle into a new home and I end up resenting my new home. So can NOT wait to hear how you go and how you would do it if you had to do it again.

I’ve moved a few times over the last few years until we finally bought 2 years ago. I always packed a first night/day box- the kettle, tea bags, toasted sandwich maker, tea towels, bath towels, body was, fresh linen to go straight into the beds, remote controls, extension cords etc. it’s the last box sealed and the first box opened. At least this way you can have a cup of tea, a shower and hop into bed with clean sheets.

It will be out there, we were close a few times, but we didn’t allow our hearts to interfere with finances.

Congrats on your New home Kat !! After reading your post it gives me inspiration that it is possible. My partner & I have been looking for the past 12+Months as well and I COMPLETELY agree it is so exhausting. I am so over people saying “Oh you still haven’t found a house !”
So I am very happy for you. Would love to know what Crisp White paint you used? I do agree, you would think that White is White ! Nope they are blue whites, green white’s OMG. Happy moving & cant wait for the updates x

It is exhausting, and if you can it’s good to spend the time to find exactly what you are wanting πŸ™‚ I chose Lexicon 1/4 strength πŸ™‚

Yay its official! I am so eager to hear what shade of white you chose πŸ™‚ Congrats on the move – your story sounds so much like mine! House hunting is so draining and you have your ups and downs. We are looking for acreage and it must have an office space for 3 computers as we run a home business. Ideally I would love a detatched granny flat or garden studio, but I can’t be picky!! It is tiring though and you do feel like you are placing your life on hold. So excited to hear and see more of your move in the new year. I shall be stalking your IG too!

I love the new layout on the homepage – it is one of the most user friendly blog pages I have come across, for a blog that shares so much variety and regular posts. It is easy to get weighted down with lots of unnecessary bits here and there, but I think you have nailed it. I can’t give feedback on the mobile version, as I only view via desktop – I like to see it on the big screen!!

thank you Ashlea for the feedback, I ended up going with Lexicon 1/4 strength. So eager to see how it looks in the kitchen. Yes our stories are so similar we too have 3 computers in our office. The new office is going to be cozy, but I really enjoy working alongside my hubby. Thank you for the feedback on the home page, I am just striving to make it as user friendly as I can πŸ™‚

Exciting news for you and your family. What a crazy time to move lol….but you are super organised so it will be a breeze. It’s always a big decision to move or stay. Sad and happy times, memories. After moving when our kids were teenagers to a bigger house we are now near finished renovating, with the kitchen to be started after Christmas. As I wander through my house I feel happy and content, that my house is a home using a lot of ideas from you Kat as well. So I have a bit of you here lol. Enjoy your new house and I am so looking forward to you showing us more next year. I will have a look at the new format of your blog later. So that is two things what’s the third thing…?
