I’m the first to admit I love a good checklist and chart and you’ll never find me without one or the other! However, I’ve not always been so organised.
Flashback to when I was a young mum with twins: My house was a mess…. my sanity was shot. When I wasn’t struggling to deal with the clean pile of Mt. Washmore on our couch, I was crying my heart out behind the closed bathroom door, and groundhog days got the better of me. I wished desperately for a way to get on top of the cooking, cleaning, chores, and caring for myself a bit…something that had faded away since the babies were born.
I asked the mother’s group I was in for advice but sadly, they were struggling too! It took a fair amount of trial-and-error for me to realise that routines and schedules held the key to keep the home tidy, clothes washed, kids fed and happy and have a clean kitchen at the end of the day.
It may not seem like rocket science but when you’re a young mum, trying to juggle babies, dishes, laundry, cooking, chores and errands, it can drive you stir crazy and leave you feeling like a failure.
I created systems that worked for us and since then, have used those foundational principles to keep up with our changing family dynamics.
I’ve distilled many years of cleaning, cooking and organising experience into this blog as well as my books, The Clean Home, Lunchbox Recipes and Hearty Dinner Recipes.
