My definition of purge – sell, donate, repurpose or throw away items as you see fit

Kitchen Appliances
I must admit, I have a few too many kitchen appliances than I really need…. I like trying out new gadgets. Recently I reassess all the appliances I had and realised I have a few that all did the same thing, so it was time to purge. I gave most of them away to my brother, lucky man, however he said no to the pretty pink hand beater, wonder why??
Todays task is to:
Look at all your appliances, purge the following:
- double ups
- broken appliances
- keep your favourite appliance and purge the others that do the same thing
- ones you have not used in over 12 months
Last year I purchased a Thermomix, which blends, chops, grates, cooks, juices… so many things, so I have managed to purge most of the appliances from the top of my pantry shelf (blender, juicer and food processor)! I will show you in a post soon how I have re-organised this space!

What appliances have you purged today?
I would like to see a photo of your purge pile on Instagram, use the hashtag #declutter52

my MIL (bless her) keeps giving me her ‘cast off’ appliances. My cupboards are full of them. My husband, because they are a ‘gift’ doesn’t want get rid of them. I have a thermomix, which is all I use. But I am still going to persevere and empty all the cupboards out. Hopefully he’ll understand that we do not need the Mr Cappuccino milk frother……….sigh 🙂
Haha, good luck!!
LOL your MIL sounds so sweet. Can you place all the appliances you no longer want in a storage box in the garage, then after a few months your husband can then see and realise you don’t really need them and then you can purge them?
The only one we have that I’ve not used in ages is the popcorn maker.
Thats quite a relief, actually! And I think I’ll keep it, we should use it more often.
I’ve had people suggest that I should get rid of the stick blender now I have a food processor, but I find the stick blender more efficient for specific tasks.
Stick blenders are good for soups – keep it in the pot!
Absolutely! And mashing baby food. Also, it takes up next to no space.
I do, however, really need to find cupboard space for the food processor. Its huge and in the way on the bench.
that’s the stubble with such big appliances. I usually don’t keep appliances on my kitchen bench, but now that I have a very heavy KitchenAid mixer is has to stay, the kettle and Thermomix get used every day, so it makes sense for them to stay, but my corner of the kitchen bench closest to the power point looks so cluttered now, didn’t design my kitchen very well for that reason.
My hubby and kiddies purchased a stick blender for me for mothers day last year, I used it quite a bit before my Thermomix, I can’t part with it just as it feels too new to purge. But I agree it’s small and manageable to store still.
Love this! We live in a tiny apartment so we regularly cull. The one thing I won’t throw away though is my egg maker. I LOVE it!
Ooh fancy!
Carly…. please explain what is an egg maker, I have never heard of one and I thought I knew every appliance available LOL.
Done this – but don’t think it really counts as we don’t have many appliances. All I threw out were some items that came with my previous blender that broke. Still at least I achieved a task quickly 🙂
Haha, the old pieces from old appliances do tend to hide in corners!
LOL, big tick off the list great work adorably
I’m in the midst of getting a new kitchen (very excited) so in the lead up to that, looked at all my appliances to see what I use/don’t use and discovered that the only appliance I *don’t* use is the juicer attachment for the blender. And that was mainly because it had been eaten by the black hole that is a corner cupboard. I no longer have corner cupboards! I’ve found alt.uses for a few of my appliances – like using the stick blender to “sift” icing sugar and crush herbs (not at the same time), and stewing fruit in the rice cooker.
When the new kitchen is in, there’s going to be some more culling though.
Rice cookers are very versatile!
How exciting in getting a new kitchen, have you chosen cupboards or drawers, I see the drawers are becoming more popular for plastics and crockery.
