My definition of purge – sell, donate, repurpose or throw away items as you see fit

Table Linens
When my kids were growing up I didn’t bother putting table clothes over the table. We had a glass topped table and found it much easier to wipe over the table once dinner was finished, saved my sanity and time not having to constantly wash a tablecloth, as the kids always made a mess!! We now have a wooden table which needs protecting from scratches so we now always use a tablecloth when eating dinner. Through the day I pretty it up with a table runner and an ornament.

I reuse the tablecloth until it gets to the point that it needs to be washed (typically 2-3 nights). After dinner I fold over the tablecloth and shake off all the crumbs outside. I then fold it up and put it on one of the dining chairs. It stays on the dining chair until dinner the next day.

Todays task is to:
Sort through your table linens, placemats, drink coasters etc and purge all items you no longer need. Eg, old tired linens or those that aren’t the correct size for your table.
How many items have you been able to purge today?
I would like to see a photo of your purge pile on Instagram, use the hashtag #declutter52

We only have ONE table cloth and two runners, one set of placemats and no coasters. So nothing to get rid of here!
Wow, great work Basketcase!
While I do have four table cloths, they don’t take up much space so they can stay for now!
Your doing well with only 4 Miss Maudy, that’s less than me!!
Oh, I really like that simple idea of just folding the table cloth up when it’s not being used! I love the look of my table without one but we’ve always kept it on to stop it getting ruined at dinner times, why didn’t I think of this!! x
That’s understandable Zoe leaving it on to protect it. As much as I would love a beautiful wooden table we purchased a cheap on from Ikea so if it gets scratched while the kids are little it’s not a huge problem. I have heard the trick of when you do get a scratch rub in a bit of shoe polish to hide it!!
I gave up on table cloths, I spent more time getting frustrated that they were getting dirty. Now I just wipe the table down instead.
I have a wooden table protected by glass. During the day it’s covered by my nice Dutch tablecloth and a fresh fruit bowl. At mealtimes I remove table cloth and use place mats. Just have to wipe them and the glass down after meals!!
We only have 2 table cloths and no runners. I think it’s time to buys some more table linen. I never really bothered before as my 2 children always made a mess. Now I would like to decorate our dining table.
Kat, the flamingo’s in the background on your first pic, are they antique or vintage somewhat? My mother inlaw has them and thinks they are antiques???
