Organising a baby gift? Whether you’re going to a baby shower or visiting bub at home, here are some practical baby gift ideas that new parents will love.
When my twins were born, I was super grateful for the practical baby shower gifts I received – some of which I didn’t even know I needed! If you have a baby shower coming up, or maybe you’re organising a group baby gift at work, here are my suggestions for practical gifts that the parents-to-be will really appreciate.
DIVIDED PLATE SET
Sometimes it’s nice to give baby gifts that will be useful down the track, such as a Divided Plate Set for when bub is ready for first foods. Look for one that is BPA and phthalate free, as well as being dishwasher safe.
SOUPER CUBES + baby food recipe book
This gift is certainly one of the most practical! I always found the best way to make baby food was in a big batch and freeze it in cubes. These could then be pressed out and stored in clip seal bags until needed. Having baby food ready in portion sizes to quickly microwave made the witching hour so much easier, and they were very handy to grab and go when I went out.
Felt Storage Caddy with baby products
Help the new parents get organised for baby with a Felt Storage Caddy filled with baby items. This is such a handy caddy to use for the baby change table and move around the house as needed. Since it has handles, it’s also really easy to hand to the grandparents if they take bub for an afternoon.
For this caddy, I filled it with:
- a wrap
- a onesie
- a comb
- a teddy
You could also include a baby thermometer, baby nail clippers, rattles, bath care or nappy cream.
Strucket Soak Strainer
Babies make a lot of mess! I used to find myself always soaking baby and toddler clothes when the kids were little. Having a strucket is absolute godsend for this, because it’s so easy to strain the water out, without having to put your hand into the mucky water!! It’s a gift that will continue to be used for years.
If you’re doing a group gift, a strucket can make the perfect ‘basket’ to put everything in. You can choose from several gorgeous colours or classic white.
Being read to at a young age helps develop kids who grow up loving to read. Gift the baby with his or her first library, presented in a basket or storage box. Choose a selection from bestsellers for Kids aged 0-3 years and pop in a soft toy for night time snuggles.
Having lots of basics made from soft organic cotton is so helpful as new parents are juggling feeding and changing in those early weeks! This Burt’s Bees Organic Jumpsuit is a super cute and practical baby shower gift.
Creating a sleep routine is one of the hardest things for new parents. As well as diffusing essential oil to help calm baby, this Aroma Snooze Sleep Aid Vaporiser is also a coloured nightlight with a red light setting that helps induce sleep. It has sleep sounds and music built in and acts as an air purifier and humidifier.
baby video + audio monitor
Keeping an eye on bub helps give new parents peace of mind. This VTech Video and Audio Monitor also has two-way talk back so they can reassure your little one from the next room.
a home cooked meal
Home cooked meals make a really thoughtful gift once the baby comes home. Having a new baby can be a stressful time for new parents. Gifting a new mum a home cooked meal or two can be a gift that can really help her sanity on the tougher days. It’s a thoughtful gift that can also be budget-friendly if you’re popping by for a cuppa.
My favourite meals to cook that can be easily stored in the freezer are Shepherds Pie and pasta bakes such as the Chicken and Roast Pumpkin Pasta Bake. You can gift the meal in a BBQ foil tray from the supermarket, or in a Falcon Enamel Lasagne Pan which will go from freezer to oven.
There’s no greater feeling than bringing your bundle of joy home and settling into a new life with your little one. While preparing for your new bub is incredibly exciting, it can also be quite overwhelming and daunting. It can be a challenge to know what products and equipment you…. Continue Reading
