I love the Ikea Expedit Series. I see them often when I am looking through magazines I notice how beautifully decorated they are and I hope that mine will look just as lovely someday. I am halfway there and on a mission to create my own stunning Expedit Unit.
I have 3 units, a 5×5 in the kids toy room, a 2×4 in my wardrobe and a 4×4 in my scrapbook room.
I am close to finishing my wardrobe makeover, I am yet to fill these spaces in the unit below, but super excited to share with you what I have sitting above the unit!
In this unit I have the Large Madison Water Hyacinth Baskets from Mor-Stor. They are gorgeous, sturdy and really pretty to look at too!
Hard to see but this is the expedit unit in the background in my scrap room, I have now upgraded this to the 4×4, who was I kidding, I had too much stuff and needed more storage. Again, I’ll have pics soon for you! This is me super excited to receive my project life kit on my b’day last year!
Below are a few inspirational images to create your own organised Expedit Unit.

I have a 5×5 expedit bookcase and some of the drawers (lekman) to both display my yarn and keep it safe from my rabbit. I love it so much that I’m planning a craft room for my sewing/quilting with the expedit series as well.
Our Expedit shelves are used for toy storage – http://leechbabe.com/2008/11/28/reconstruction-deconstruction-construction/
Red boxes up high are ‘ask mummy and daddy before pulling out toys’ – like the evil Barbie’s with all their little pieces.
Clear boxes are pull out any time toys.
This girl can only dream. There is no Ikea nearby 🙁 I do love them though and your inspiration pics are lovely.
Oooh – I have a 16 cube unit in my daughters room but it isnt an expedit (no Ikea stores anywhere near us) I’ll happily send a pic but unsure as it isnt one of theirs…
Mine isn’t in a beautiful state right now, but I still love it. I have a 4 x 4 for all my crafty stuff. And just recently got a 2 x 4 for my son’s lego creations. They are the best!
By the way, in the first image have they sacrificed two cubes to make it a corner unit? Not sure I’d be prepared to do that lol, but it sure does look great!
I agree Rachael don’t think I could do it either, but I think it looks so good wrapping around the corner.
Hi Katrina, the image you didn’t know the owner of (with the pretty blue curtains and the 1:05 on the monitor), comes from http://www.casagreer.com/. You should take a look at their bedroom makeover, so wow!
So far I have resisted buying an expedit, but most people I know have one, including my mum :o) Ikea will take over the world one day!
Thankyou Cassie for the link, I much perfer to give image credit. LOL, yes IKEA will take over, another one is coming to Brisbane, wish there was one on the Gold Coast!
I love the look of the Expedit too. I’ve got a 2×4 version in my daughter’s bedroom. We don’t have IKEA near us, so I found Officeworks supply something very similar. The IKEA baskets/boxes fit in it too.
I love them too. I’ve drooled over them for awhile but for our toy organisation I ended up getting some cheaper units from deals direct which is serving its purpose. For now, anyway.
There are so many varieties, but they are all the same really, love them too!
I have a few of these EXPEDIT units. I have 2 5×5 that house all my kids scrapbook albums. 1 unit for each child. Then I have a 5×5 in my scrap room, a 2×4 in each of the kids rooms. i know think i need another 4×4 for my scrap room. Even though our local IKEA store is 500km away I still manage to make the most of when we go there. Probably a good idea we live so far away as i can’t afford to live any closer.
Ahhhhh, I want one (… or maybe more!!) but we are trying to work out where to put them. I need to see all those pics. Thanks Katrina
Pics are coming Tracy
I love love love the expedit unit, looks good and keeps all things organised.
Oh my gosh! That one with the fabric in it is my absolute dream sewing room !!!! LOVE IT!
Would be nice, I am sure you could easily create something similar. These ikea units are great value for money.
OMG i love these pics, not sure where my nearest ikea store is but maybe i can get my handy dad to put some together for me! i love how they make “stuff” look so good and organised! My new best friends i think!!
Have a look on their website, they also deliver.
