Growing up we never celebrated Halloween, it just wasn’t a thing in my family and I wasn’t going to make a big fuss about it with my kids. However Halloween is a growing celebration here in Australia with many of the kids in our neighbourhood dressing up and knocking on doors asking for treats. This year it falls on a Friday, we will be home and have decided that we will participate this year. Yes ‘decided’, because I am still torn between celebrating or not I just don’t like the idea of my kids knocking on the door of neighbours who we don’t usually talk to asking for lollies. Usually the lollies received are unwrapped and I’m not comfortable with that, questioning how old are they, where have they been stored, are they coated with anything. Ok, last one is a little too far, lolly tampering, but my mind thinks about things like that and makes me worried.
When we participate in Halloween I give out packaged lollies. This year I have created a little area near our front door ready for the celebration. It has helped me get into the spirit.
Allen’s Fruity Craze Jelly Beans are now available at Coles and other independent supermarkets in fun size packs, you can find them in the lolly aisle with the other multipacks. The fun size packs are a great treat for the kids, and being that there are only 9 jelly beans in each pack, I am confident they won’t over indulge! The Halloween lollies don’t have to be eaten on Halloween night, they can be saved for a treat at sports or school for the kids, or have in your purse for something sweet while driving.
Fruity Craze packs come with 8 out of the 9 original Allen’s Jelly Bean flavours, black aniseed is missing as most kids don’t like them.
Download these Happy Halloween prints for FREE from my shop. I created two designs, one a little spooky for the older kids and a cute one for the younger ones.
coupon code expires 31st October 2014.

sitting outside on the deck watching the boats go by with a hot cuppa and my hubby before the kids get up in the morning always brightens my day. Getting to spend those first few minutes together is pretty awesome. I would give this prize to my brother and sister in law who live in Blackwater to brighten their day and I’m sure my niece and nephews will love the lollies too!

My beautifully organised wardrobe and dresser brightens my day by making it a breeze to pick my outfit for the day rather than the previous searching through washing baskets! Thankyou Organised Housewife!
Wonderful, glad to hear your wardrobe is lovely and organised.

What brightens my day I hear you ask
Well waking up in the sunshine to bask
Like my stretchy old tabby cat
I roll, stretch and yawn
Before rising to greet the beautiful dawn
Lovely poem Eva!
Cheers Katrina….any excuse for a good old rhyming poem 🙂
My four beautiful children’s smiles 🙂 and a cup of tea in my large yellow chevron tea cup

I love seeing my house clean and tidy. It helps me relaxing!!
The sound of my coffee machine makes any day brighter!!
The rainbow of colours in my study. Brightful cheerful colours, you cant help but smile <3
My day is gloomy and I am irritated if I don’t start my day with a glass of water, Bible-study and prayer – with only the sound of birds as company. Only then do I feel up to a new day’s challenges, I light up when I see my children coming in with still sleepy faces, and then I open the curtains to let in the day.
Opening all the blinds in the morning and making some coffee!! ????
Our indoor cat who still thinks he’s a kitten, chasing me around playfully like a little dog. A spark of life that brightens the house and my days 🙂
The big skylight we recently had put in, brightens my day on so many levels. I hate darkness and gloom.
My potted Fern…I smile every time I see it and can’t believe I haven’t managed to kill it yet! I have it 2 full weeks now
Warm hugs from my children, especially the unexpected ones. They always make my day brighter, as family is home.
Sorry Katrina I wrote the wrong email on my last entry. Thanks
Hearing the child they said would probably never talk say ‘Good morning mum.’ This brightens my day, every day.
I love opening the blinds in my kitchen to see all my flowers in bloom. This is the first house I have had with a garden & it fills my heart with joy.
Sharing our home with friends brightens my day and makes my heart sing!

My children’s big smiles and big warm hugs as they wake to a brand new day, filled with new adventures and possibilities.
My children who can perform a rendition of “Let it go” or have a boogie to “I like to move it” all before breakfast has even hit the table. How can that not brighten my day.

Open blinds to let light in and have a clean house!
Nice big windows that lets in plenty of light and fresh air! There’s nothing worse than living in a dark dingy home like a vampire.
The same thing each morning… My sunshine girls smiling faces ~ always
so happy!
Cuddling in bed with my daughter in the morning before we start our day, and hearing her sleepy, smiling voice say “good morning mummy”
My daughter climbing into bed with me for a morning cuddle.
The beautiful good mornings from each of my children.
My daughter’s drawings on the fridge! First thing as I walk bleary eyed to the fridge after bub’s been awake all night, I smile at her pictures of us all! Really adds a sparkle to my day!
Baking yummy treats for family and friends in our kitchen on our new farm which has beautiful country views. Brightens my mood and makes me feel just that little bit happier every day 🙂
Lights!
And the fact that they turn on.
That when I come home at night I can turn on the tap and a hot steamy shower appears, that the kettle hisses, the fridge is still cold, and I know my door locks. My roof is not damaged from the rains or the photo albums haven’t been destroyed by flames.
Call me old fashion or even a little simple, but what brightens my day is the fact that I can come home to a safe house, regardless of its cleanliness or the weather outside, and that all those who dwell within it are safe and healthy.
i was trying to think and couldn’t get past my first thought was my 3 kids and second was the 3 cats. So family. But I’m not sure if that’s what you actually meant
If taking about household things it’s hopping into bed with freshly made clean sheets
Cranking up the Temptations and belting out “My Girl” to speed up the housework. “I GOT SUNSHINNEEEEE, ON A CLOUDDDDY DAYYYYY!!”
Well, the question was “what in your home brightens up your day”. My hubby does FIFO, so when he is home, everything is brighter!!
waking up with the sun shining on the sun catcher, casting a rainbow on my bedroom wall.
Talking to our little Grandson by phone never fails to brighten my day.
Family brightens my day. The sound of laughter & conversation. All freshly bathed and smelling like home. Cheeky smiles & eyes wide in wonder. Makes my heart gladden even now.
Finding five surprise minutes to myself to be still and grateful for all that makes me so busy brightens my day.

Having fresh flowers around are always so cheerful with their bright colours smiling at me, especially ones from my garden 😀
Fresh flowers and a sea breeze
My 4 children and their various artworks and crafts totally brighten my day! I never thought I would have children and lost 8 babies to miscarriage for years so their presence in my life is a miracle that warms my heart and soul everyday. When they may leave one day, I will still always have some of their artworks to hang on to!
my large collection of bright, patterned, perfectly placed lounge cushions brightens my day every morning! A little bit of colour brings out a smile in everyone, and always spikes a comment or two from guests! i would love to add more colour to my home – what better way than winning a selection made by the organised housewife 🙂 x
Flowers and colour. Pretty down at the moment but if I push and put sunlight flowers and colour it helps
The smile on my twins faces when I get home from work. Its beautiful to see how happy they are to see me
My son’s sleepy eyes when I wake him up for school always makes me smile
Fresh flowers always make the world of difference! Especially if they are grown in my very own garden.
A photo from our wedding day 18 years ago with our son who was 18 months old at the time….I look at it every single day and it always, always makes me smile 🙂
Photos of our family and friends brighten our day 🙂
After the crazy breakfast, lunch, bed making and dropping my kids off to school run, I come home and light all my tea lights in my soy melts. I have one in every room. I love just sitting, having a coffee and smelling the lovely scents throughout my house. Aahhh!
The bright happy faces of my 5 children always brightens my day (even if they have left a massive trail of destruction behind them!!!)
Obviously my kids bring the happiness. But having the windows and doors open, letting that breeze flow through the house feels like its blows the troubles/worries etc away. Like a fresh start. 🙂
My baby girl with her happy go lucky nature brightens up what ever room she is in. My little ray of sunshine has taught me that happiness is a mind set and you can find the joy in any situation
Colourful pink and purple post-it note reminders brighten up my day and keep me organised too!
What brightens my day? After I am dressed, we have made the bed, & I whipped over the bathroom, I am ready for anything, let the day begin. Then having brekkie that my wonderful hubby of 48 years, that he has made starts the day off real well.
The sound and marks of my children! Whether that be laughing, fighting, crying, or their wacky childcare art work – sensing their presence brightens up our home that without them, is silent and boring!
The laughter of my three boys playing together is always sure to brighten my day
My kids laughter…..sunshine flooding through the windows, putting some fresh lipstick on, that moment when you have the house clean for 5 minutes before the kids come home, the silence after the kids go to bed and you can sit down and breathe!! These are just a few of the things in my house that help to brighten my day! Oh and when that all fails, singing “The sun’ll come out tomorrow” never fails to put a smile on your face – even just because it is so ridiculous 🙂
Putting on some boppy music in the morning as we get ready really brightens my mood. It pulls me out of my early morning tiredness and after a quick sing a long, albeit sounding atrocious, and a funny dance with the kidlets, it seems to restore some vigour for the day ahead.
My family, my yellow bedroom, the beautiful gumtree outside my bedroom window!
When my husband pulls up the driveway, even after 14 years and 3 children it still brightens my day when he comes home 🙂
My son & husband laughing and playing together brightens my day, every day.
A clean house especially clean kitchen and coffee in my double wall glass cup.
I love at night when I read to my 3 year old and 6 month old and they listen excitedly exchanging smiles with each other when I say or do something funny. It really makes every other worry disappear in that moment.
I know it has been said before, but the early morning sun streaming into my kitchen where I spend the majority of the morning getting beakfast and preparing lunches for four kids, that is what my brightens my home!
My kitchen window faces east, I love opening the curtains in the morning and having the sun stream through the prisms being held by fairies, dragons butterflies etc., They make rainbows all over my kitchen/dinning area
A clean kitchen bench to sit at in the morning for breakfast and watch the birds in the tree outside.
Sitting on the patio eating breakfast with our family and watching and listening to the birds in the backyard. It’s a morning ritual for us.
My son and husband smiling, Saturday mornings, baking, a clean home, the sun.
My boys finding our cat first thing in the morning to play with her, brightens up my home and day.
Waking up with the sun streaming in through my blinds, next to the best friend and husband. I thank god for this everyday as it makes me truely happy.
My girls brighten my day. I don’t know how they wake up so cheery but it sure helps on those early mornings! 🙂
My strawberries growing in hanging pots on the verandah, this year the slugs can’t get them and it’s lovely picking and eating them
Hearing my daughter waking up and saying ‘Mum! Mum! Mum!’ repeatEdly, followed by ‘BOO!’ when I open her door!! 🙂
My husband bringing me breakfast in bed every morning for the last nine weeks to help combat my morning sickness really brightens my day. Just like the growing little human inside me does (and will do even better when it joins us on the outside!). 🙂
Other than my children it would have to be my morning iced coffee, it gets me started for the day & I miss it terribly if I don’t have it (abit addicted I think hehe)
Fresh flowers. I try to have them in the house as much as possible. They make the room feel bright and cheerful.
A little bunch if fresh flowers next to my bed! Waking up to fresh flowers always brightens my day!
I have some of those over door hooks, I found that when I hang them on the top of the shower screen, that towels get hung up on them and they don’t stay on the floor anymore. It brightens every single day for me!!????
Green, I wake up to a forest of trees inside and out, they make me feel uplifted straight away. I have green, orange, blue, yellow, red, purple, pink everywhere and I’m smiling now because I probably should have said colour makes me happy!
My white kitchen – with red stools, red desk chairs, red lights and a red appliance pantry roller door. Happiness! Plus my mum sometimes gives me some waratahs or proteas to go on the kitchen table. Oooh AND I have a lovely portrait of my grandmother and a painting of Sydney Harbour, paid for by my Mother’s Group for my 40th b’day! Awwww
I love to see my families pictures to start my day off.
Going into my girls room in the morning
to wake them up, to find they have climbed into bed together through the night and they wake up cuddling. That brightens my day by warming my heart.
I have a string line on a wall where I peg up photos of my favorite people and places. Every time I walk past it it evokes a happy memory of a past experience or moment in time and just seeing a picture of a little face smiling at me brightens my day.
The wine on the counter, the bible on my coffee table, and my bookshelf STUFFED with books. You can never have too many books, even when you run out of space! 🙂
I kept dropping hints for my hubby to buy me flowers….he never got the hint so now I spoil myself & buy myself a bunch of flowers each & every week. They really brighten up the house & make me happy every time I look at them
Seeing my 18 month old walk up to me and say mum is the best kind of brightness. After months of hard work with physio and speech (after drs telling me he wouldn’t walk or talk) makes my day so much brighter every second of the day!
Love the morning & afternoon sun filtering through the blinds, the sounds of my kids laughing, fresh cut flowers through the house, the smell of freshly baked cookies and the beautiful pops of colour from my cushions in the living areas are just a few things that brighten my days!!
No matter what the weather is like outside, my family brightens my day and night.
Simply knowing that all the washing has been done, folded and put away makes me happy at home. And beds that are made. xxx
I have an enormous bunch of silk flowers in the living room that my daughter and I chose together. It is bright and full of colour and is a reminder of the fun we had together choosing the flowers.
My big yellow tea cup! I wake up 10 mins before the rest of the household and make a lovely hot cup of tea in it. A little spark to start the day.
My 2 boys brighten my my home- if I’m home alone, the house just doesn’t feel the same…..great prize pack 🙂
Sunshine , streaming through my front windows of a morning! There is nothing like sunshine to make you feel good
My family brighten my day along with my doggies.
My late husbands smiling photo, frame, encouraging me to keep going! I do need some new brightness!
Clean floors, a scented candle burning & a chai latte
A good morning kiss from my wife Jackie as her kiss starts off my day brightly.
Everything in our home was brown when we purchased it. Brown is very boring. My husband loves coordinated things but I am very eclectic. So any little pop of color makes me smile. For example a hot pink vase with bright flowers. The chalk board painted hall with crazy colored stenciled border.
Dancing round the living room with my children to Pharell Williams ‘Happy’, not caring if the neighbours can see through the open bifolds at the front of the house. Just great fun.
watching all the beautiful rainbows of refracted colour from all my crystal ornaments as the morning light springs them to life
Seeing all the mess, scratches and dings, they are all made with love from my 3 boys, usually with lots of laughter, cheekiness and love, and often memories in the making. It’s the feelings and emotions of what surrounds me in my home that brightens my day
It is good cup of Latte and 30 min quiet time before everyone is up in the morning.
The sound of true laughter from children. When they let go that real belly laugh and you know they are truly happy and carefree, just as children should be! Knowing that we must be doing something right to protect them and raise happy, healthy kids. Priceless!
Looking at my garden through clean windows!
Love Laughter & Tantrums is what I love and brightens my day cause then I know we are family and no matter what happens in our lives we are alive and we are family and that makes me smile
My family brightens my day.The laughter from the girls or even something as simple as sitting down to a meal together.
I would love to say that the decor in my home brightens my day, but most days I feel cramped, and would love to have the money ditch everything and start again. and so it is my BFFF(best feline friend forever) who really brightens my day, except when she wants to be fed at 5.00am
Nothing in my house brightens my day, as it is a constant mess. But my son making me a cup of coffee in the morning makes me smile!
A bright smile and morning cuddles from my little boys;
And sunlight streaming through my window brings me joy.
Pictures on our walls, happy photos of our favourite days;
Drawings done by my children in a brightly colourful craze …
The delicious smell of freshly brewing coffee;
And the perfumed aroma of flowers my sons’ picked for me.
But the number one thing which brightens my day;
Is my alarm being turned off, and having lots of time for play!
The accent colour my living room is yellow! I love my yellow cushions, they are like a ray of sunshine on my sofa!
My daughter’s beautiful smile
The thing that brightens my day is seeing my 22 month old daughter so in love with her newborn baby brother.. She makes me giggle when she tells him to sit & stay like she’s talking to our dog 🙂
Fresh flowers ,especially the roses from my garden
Sipping hot tea outside in the sunshine (usually when the kids are napping).
Making a coffee and waiting to receive your email at 6.17am Monday -Friday. Honestly, until I read your daily post whilst enjoying a cup of coffee I feel that my day can’t begin and then reading your email brightens my mood. Even my 11 year old daughter says mum, what was on the organised housewife email today lol. I know you need to have a weekend, however I do miss the emails on the weekends!
ooh that is lovely Tracy!.:) x
My four gorgeous children – love that first half an hour of the day with them.
My kids’ innocent laugh, which is clear like water, makes me forget worries and sadness, and feel my life is full of sunshine everyday.
A well organised wardrobe spilling with colour and choice to brighten my mood. Before giving to the many I help each day.
I am in desperate need of colour in my home. We renovated and painted the one colour throughout, nice colour called hog bristle, or beige. So very beige in this house! The only colour I have is the blur of my toddler who runs past! He brightens my day…. well. Most days.
Open all the curtains letting the morning light in and picking my baby up from his bed after he greats me with a beautiful smile.
Open the blinds, up go the windows, light a scented candle and kiss the kids!
I love my lovely green living plants, so much so they have names and when it rains they go outside to play. They clear the air and brighten my day.
Waking up to the beautiful face of my newborn son brightens my day. Being able to provide an amazing home for him is what I am most proud of.
A clean house, a good coffee, a happy child and a dippy egg ?????????????????
Receiving that first morning hug and kiss from my two gorgeous children. I love that at almost 11 my son races so he can have the first hug and kiss of the day. How could this not brighten my day 🙂
My home is an eclectic mix of items that I have made, been given and collected. It would never make the pages of a magazine but is a place where my family make memories and is filled with kids laughter, pre school art and colour. It is my sanctuary!
Aside from my kids I would have to say fresh flowers. The house feels sad without them!!!
Waking up knowing that my day will be filled with love and laughter with my gorgeous family always makes my home and day shine brightly!!
The smiles on my two beautiful kids and my new sheets and quilt cover .
Waking up in my ‘own’ little studio, my own little piece of light, bright and colourful heaven! Full with secondhand and free furniture and decorations. They are cleaned, loved and upcycled!! Can’t get better then that 🙂
I can definitely do with some amazing new colourful accessories to spruce it all up a bit!!
Watching my husband bond with our new baby and seeing him be silly. Our Sunday mornings have become “Sunday dance parties”. How can watching your husband and 10 week old baby dance around the living room not brighten up your day!
I absolutely believe in the power of accessories in the home to change the mindset and benefit mood. One of the most important things to me is decorative photo frames with pictures of family and happy memories – nothing puts a bigger smile on my face!
My new outdoor cushions brighten my day !
Right now I have a day off! And while my daughter is home sick, I have made a day bed for her with books and snacks on the trampoline so she is happy and on the mend. So often I have to work on days she is ill so it makes me very happy to be able to be here, working inside but occasionally popping out to snuggle her on the trampoline. I have the Moving House free printables and am so excited to be organised as I prepare to leave our home of 10 years & move just down the road to a home with more light and more room. Loving life and really feeling on top of things. Didn’t seem possible just a few months back.
My new white and most importantly – uncluttered – kitchen. So nice and bright and with gorgeous timber benchtops that I can actually SEE!
Beautifully scented candles in a clean house! I feel so accomplished and Happy!
My daughters smile brightens my day after a long hard day and knowing she it’s truly happy regardless of weather the house is clean or not. Spending precious time with her rather than cleaning, the cleaning will wait her growing up won’t ??
A clean kitchen sink, as simple as it would have been to leave a the dishes or a cup the night before, the 10min spent before bed putting away and cleaning the sink is the pay off for the next day
What makes me really happy is waking up every morning knowing I don’t have to go to work anymore. I retired in July after 50 years in the workforce.
The smell of freshly brewed coffee and freshly baked bread. Not to mention the beautiful family that not only brighten my home but brighten my world.
The sound of my four children laughing. Nothing makes my day any brighter than that.
I love to see pops of colour with fruit, especially crisp green apples piled high in a bowl, the white bench top.
Seeing my children happy! Simple yet brightens my life, not just my day and I just think, they’re mine, I am truly blessed 🙂
As a single mum I now can decorate how I like. No complaining partner putting limitations on my style so I now have created a bright colourful bedroom for myself. I wake up seeing pretty colours and feel happy with the world. My Mum spent 6 months knitting me a bright colourful blanket to match the room. My 4 boys love my room so much that they like hanging out in there. Usually I find them playing games on my bed or hogging my bright orange chair.
Clearing one small space of all its clutter,
really sets my heart a-flutter!
That may sound nutty but I must confess,
I’ve had a long battle dealing with mess,
at 55 I finally have clutter out of the way,
I feel brightened that I can now seize the day!
Fresh flowers always brighten my day. The children’s artworks around the house, a cup of herbal tea in a porcelain cup, nice music , the curtains/blinds flung open, a clean and tidy house and something baking in the oven……..marvellous!
The laughter and smiles of my kids. But it’s not the done thing to hang them up on the wall. 😉
My kids’ paintings on the wall. They have such fun doing it and I love seeing their colourful art every day, and it makes them feel proud that it’s their art on the wall and not something I’ve bought from the shops.
Photo’s of loved one’s everywhere I look 😀
Other than the family and pets that live here with their laughter and smiles, I would say the leadlight welcome sign inside our front door, it’s the first thing you see when you come home and the last thing you see as you shut the door and it always brings a smile to my face.
Waking up healthy and happy
I have a number of different hot beverage mugs with bright cheerful pictures on them. Each of them are used depending upon my disposition at that time.
What brightens my day is rolling over in the morning to see my 3yo sons face standing next to me saying – “get out of bed mummy….. Can you make my breakfast please”.
Seeing a bowl of ruby red organic tomatoes, that I have grown myself, brightens my day no end !!!!
My little round table next to the window where I enjoy a cup of tea while gazing out at the trees. It’s a moment’s pause that gives me a lift to carry on with the day.
The smell of toast and freshly brewed coffee always brightens up my morning!
Having the time to mindfully wash the dishes with my hands in the soapy water as i am able to look around and admire the beautiful things in my house. Taking the time to appreciate and enjoy
The scent of my favourite essential oils 🙂
My bookshelf!
The fresh veg in the garden makes me smile every day,
Love how herbs can be used in so many ways!
Being followed from room to room by my loving & loyal spaniel dog always makes me smile. She is like my own little shadow 🙂
My 2 beautiful dogs… because they love me unconditionally no matter what! Even when I’ve had a busy day at work having left them all day and I look (and feel) like something you’d scrape off the side of an alleyway bin, they still LOVE me. 🙂
Seeing my kitchen bench clear each morning, I start the day off ready.
My day is brightened by the smiles of my boys digging into pancakes.
My windows to the outside world are what brighten my day. They are my passage into the light and beauty of the world.
Witnessing kindness among family members warms my soul and brightens my day. We are usually kind to strangers and friends but we often forget to be kind to family members. So when I see kindness at home, it really makes me happy.
My first cup of tea for the day
Happy healthy hubby and kids
My beautiful aqua peacock Bed Head has inspired a diy splash of aqua painted accessories and art which brings me gentle waves of happiness!
Having fresh flowers in my kitchen brightens my day
Waking up to find Molly (My dog) sleeping soundly next to me.
Our crazy lorikeet creeping up on me by very slowly rolling her call across the floor when I am not looking. Then when I look she stops, puts her claw on the balls and just moves it back and forth pretending to be innocent. Makes me laugh every time!
Poppy, my wonder dog and soul mate, makes us laugh constantly and is the best purchase we have ever made. Thanks RSPCA!
Being able to have the house kept clean for one day without the little ones messing it all up again would really brighten my day. But I love my little ones of course! 🙂
All my family photos and paintings that I have done over the years, displayed and hung around my home never fails to brighten up my day.
Swimming lessons with my daughter really brightens my day and keeps me going. She loves the water and splashes and giggles so much it is infectious. Something I hope we have fond memories of for years to come.
When I walk into the kids bedrooms and their beds have been made, no toys on the floor and all their dirty clothes are in the washing basket!
a good cup of coffee alone….I seem the grumpiest of the bunch:)
Finding a packet of TimTams in the pantry!
Waking up to hubby wearing an apron and preparing bacon and eggs. Well, it did happen once! 🙂
My family and animals surely brighten my household and also mess it too
the kids artwork on my kitchen wall, it makes me remember when they were little and how much they make me smile

What truly brightens my day is that every morning I get to wake up in a house filled with family, love, laughter (some days more than others), the love of friends, health and peace. We live in such a free country, free of war, filled with possibilities and rights for all including women and children. I never take that for granted as home to me is more than our 4 walls: it’s community. Thanks for making the online community a brighter place too.

But there are three special who, in their own special way
Definitely have the most impact on brightening my day.
First of all, there’s hubby, my one true love
Who I honestly believe, was sent from above.
He is my rock, my soul mate, and my best friend most of all
Always there to pick me up, whenever I fall.
Then there are our darling two boys, Master M and Master A
Who fill our lives with endless joy every single day.

These beautiful people enrich every day of my life.
