I’ve just realised I have been making pom poms the wrong way and have found a new and super easy way to make them. I thought I’ll post this tutorial to help with easter project I will be sharing with you soon.

How to make a pom pom
Wrap wool around 3 fingers, depending on required size. We wrapped it around 75 times, wrap more for a fuller pom pom

Cut off a 30cm length of wool. Push one end through fingers and wrap around pom pom. Do a very tight double knot (if hard to do, remove from fingers to ensure its a tight knot).

Cut the loops on each end and fluff up

The wool in the pom pom will be all different lengths. Over a plastic bag trim down so they are all the same size, remembering to keep it rounded

I have found the more you cut away the cuter the pom pom looks

As simple as that!!

I think I have been doing it the wrong way too, this is fantastic, and no need for any little gadgets. You always amaze me Kat, thank you.
I always did it wrapped around that awkward cardboard circle. This is so much easier, thanks for sharing
I tried the plastic pom pom makers, but still couldn’t get them right and it was confusing for the young kids too.
If you find it hard to tie the wool around your fingers, try using a fork
You can also use a rectangular piece of cardboard (just like your fingers).
Now that makes complete sense too!!
I´ve always used a cardboard circle but this way easier. Thanks for the tip.
This is a brilliant way to make pom poms!! We are hoping to make lots to add to a yarn bombing project at my daughter’s primary school and this will be a super easy way for those who can’t knit/crochet to still be involved! Thank you.
