Must watch Netflix Christmas movies and TV shows for 2020. There is bound to be something for everyone on this bumper list of festive netflix viewing. Perfect for Christmas themed family movie nights.
There’s nothing like a feel good Christmas movie to get you into the spirit of the season. I must admit that my tv viewing tends to the very festive during this time of year. Christmas movies are so much fun! I have put together a bumper list of Christmas movies and TV shows on Netflix that you can watch with the family over the holidays. There is bound to be something that will appeal to all ages and tastes on this list.
DASH & LILY
This is a Christmas themed tv show that would be fun for the whole family to watch. Rated G, it follows two teens in a whirlwind holiday romance as they trade dares and thoughts back and forth in a little red notebook.
The Christmas Chronicles
We watched this one as a family last Christmas and it was big hit with all of us. Kurt Russell as Santa Claus hits all the right notes and this movie left us with all the festive warm and fuzzy feelings.
The Christmas Chronicles: Part Two
I loved the first Christmas Chronicles movie so much, I was really excited when I heard that Netflix was releasing a sequel this year. The little girl from the first movie, Kate, is now a teenager and ends up helping Santa and Mrs Claus at the North Pole when a magical troublemaker threatens Christmas.
Holiday Home Makeover with Mr Christmas.
This is a must watch for those of us who like a good home makeover show. I watched this the other weekend, and I feel like I learnt how to properly fluff a Christmas tree for the first time in my life. Some of the transformations were sheer Christmas magic.
The Polar Express
This movie has to be a Christmas classic by now. The ever popular animation of the renewal of a boy’s holiday spirit on a train journey to the North Pole. I have always liked Tom Hanks’s voice in this one.
Let it Snow
This one is a teen Christmas rom-com guaranteed to give you all the feels! I think my girls and I are going to have a movie night together and watch this one. A snow storm hits a small town on Christmas Eve and has some interesting consequences for a group of teens’ friendships and love lives.
This has to be one of my favourite Christmas movie. I end up watching it nearly every year, and I never get tired of it. It always makes me wish I could have a White Christmas in a cute little English cottage too, of course I wouldn’t say no if Jude Law was also there!
The Princess Switch
I first watched this a couple of years ago, and it was exactly the sort of Christmas movie I love. Vanessa Hudgens is Stacy, a Chicago baker who enters a Christmas baking competition in Belgravia in Europe. She bumps into a soon-to-be princess who looks exactly like her, of course they end up trading places!
The Princess Switch 2: Switched Again
I think Netflix is trying to make all our tv wishes come true this Christmas by making sequels to fan-favourite Christmas movies! Vanessa Hudgens is back for all the fun zany Christmas look-a-like comedy.

Fed up with being single on the Holidays and dealing with bad dates, Emma Roberts and Luke Bracey, agree to be each other’s platonic plus one in this romantic comedy.

Holiday in the Wild
Kristen Davis ends up on a solo safari in Africa after her son leaves for college and her marriage comes to an end. This is one of those cheesy feel good films that leaves you feeling happy.
Jingle Jangle: A Christmas Journey
This is a fun Christmas musical for the whole family. Forest Whitaker is a toymaker who finds joy again after his grand-daughter turns up on his doorstep unexpectedly. Full of whimsy, Christmas magic and amazing sets and wardrobes, it’s an enchanting festive flick.
Vince Vaughn is Santa’s grumpy older brother who ends up having to move back to the North Pole and help out with the Christmas preparations. This movie always makes me laugh.
How the Grinch Stole Christmas
I will always love Jim Carrey’s Grinch movie best, and it’s the perfect family movie to watch with kids to help start the conversation about what the true spirit of Christmas means for your family. There’s also an animated movie, Dr. Seuss’ The Grinch which might be more suitable for really little ones.
This is a heart-warming animated movie about an unlikely friendship between a post man and a toy maker. It has some quirky humour and a unique take on the origins of Santa Claus.

The Knight Before Christmas
Another wonderfully cheesy and fun Netflix Christmas movie starring Vanessa Hudgens. Medieval magic sends a 14th Century knight to modern-day Ohio where he falls for a high school science teacher who is disillusioned by love.
At Santa Claus’s super-secret toy-making facility, he entrusts his son, Arthur, to carry out an ultra-important Christmas mission in this cartoon feature.
Dolly Parton’s Christmas on the Square
Calling all Dolly fans, she has teamed up with Netflix to create a holiday musical retelling of Scrouge. It features 14 original songs, and is over-the-top in all the right ways and wonderful good fun.
A Bad Mom’s Christmas
This is a comedy bound to get all mothers chuckling. Staring Mila Kunis, Kristen Bell and Kathryn Hahn, as stressed out mums struggling with the looming holiday season.
Merry Happy Whatever
The gruff but protective patriarch, Dennis Quaid of a tight-knit family feels anything but jolly when his daughter brings her musician boyfriend home for Christmas. This comedy tv show is one for the whole family.
Watch Merry Happy Whatever now on Netflix
A Christmas comedy classic starring Reece Witherspoon and Vince Vaughn who have to fit four celebrations in on Christmas day so they can visit all four of their divorced parents.
Shrek The Halls
This is a lovely Dreamworks short film that I remember my kids watching when they were little. All the humour of the Shrek movies brought to the story of the Night Before Christmas.
If you’re looking for something not Christmas related to watch over the holidays, I have shared many of my favourites over the years. Have a look at this list of must watch Netflix TV shows and movies. I have stumbled upon shows I LOVE years after they were released – so if you missed any of these shows, they are well worth the watch!
