Christmas Savoury Snack – Nuts & Bolts

A friend of mine shared her Nuts and Bolts recipe with me. I thought the concept was so interesting with the Nutri-Grain and cereals in it, that I had to try it for myself. I was very impressed with this savoury snack. It was delicious! You expect it to be sweet, and yet it has a savoury flavour to it. You may expect to not really enjoy it, yet you can’t help it and keep going back for more. It’s really hard to explain just how good this recipe is unless you try it out for yourself and see what your taste buds think! I took it to a party recently as my ‘bring a plate‘, and people looked at it with surprised looks on their faces, but once everyone started eating it, they couldn’t stop!

I did leave it in the oven a bit too long as I was making my white Christmas at the same time, so some of the Nutri-Grain pieces were a little crispy, but it still tasted so good.  Moral of that story is though, keep your eye on it, as it won’t take long to roast up.

I enjoyed it so much that I’ve added it to my Christmas Menu this year and will have it available for my guests to nibble on throughout the day. Who would have thought that something so confusing on the brain when you see it, would turn out to be so delicious!

Simple Packaging Ideas For Savoury Christmas Gifts

The gift boxes I used in my reel are no longer available, but I’ve found a great alternative. You don’t want anything too big, otherwise the mix looks a little lost inside. Line the box with a layer of baking paper so the oil doesn’t seep into the cardboard and it also helps keep everything fresh and tidy.

Notes

Because I don’t like chickpeas I actually leave them out when I make it for my family. You can also swap them for something crunchy like pretzels if that suits your taste better.

Katrina – did you use dried chickpeas or chickpeas from a tin? Thanks.
Looks good though. Plan on making it this weekend.
Merry Christmas to you and your family!

I used roasted chickpeas, then put them on the tray with everything else to roast again and they were fine 🙂
