Christmas Craft – Large Christmas Candy Cane

I went shopping recently with my friend Carissa.  She started telling me about a decoration she was making with the kids using a pool noodles and tinsel.  So I grabbed some noodles for the pool  (bargain $3 at Kmart) and an extra one to make the creation below with the kids.  Super easy, they had a ball making it.

Sadly the blog that I originally found these instructions on is now closed, but remembering back we placed a silver and red tinsel at the bottom of the pool noodle securing with tape.  We then twisted the tinsel around to the top.  Secured the tinsel at the top.  Then tied some fishining line around the top of the pool noodle, bent the noodle over then wrapped fishing line around the longer part of the noodle to secure and make the candy cane appearance.

Alternatively, Ooh Happy Day have some helpful tips to make a giant Christmas Candy Cane.

This is my youngest with our creation.

Have you made any Christmas crafts yet?

It will only take you 5 minutes to put together than another 5 to vacuum up all the tinsel from the floor 🙂

I am wondering if the needles are hollow, could you use a wire coat hanger inside instead? then I would only need to buy tinsel as I already have old noodles that have gone yuck and no one likes to ride them.

What a great idea! I have a couple in the garage somewhere (and no pool), so definitely going to have a go at making this.
