{Decluttering} One Shelf

#26 One Shelf

Today I would like you to set aside 20 minutes to clean one shelf in your house, any shelf of your choosing.  Sort through through the contents and consider if you really need to keep each item or where a better home for it maybe.

I want to show you this shelf below, it’s one of the most used shelves in my office and I love everything that’s on it, so practical.

My dad recently paint this shelf for me, from dark pine to white, looks beautiful.

I keep my camera, which is used many times each day, in this most gorgeous fabric basket.  The Owl and The Elephant sent me this little beauty in colours to match my blog, how sweet!  It’s very sturdy allowing me to carry the basket and camera around the house.  Having no top on the basket makes it easily accessable to quickly capture a happy moment, and place back so my camera doesn’t get damaged.  The basket holds it shape effortlessly and the quality of sewing is remarkable.    Josie and Nat, the lovley ladies behind The Owl and The Elephant also have other designs and colours available .  This basket would make a great baby shower or christmas gift, filled with a few goodies.

Find The Owl and The Elephant – WEBSITE • FACEBOOK.

I use a cream wrought iron toast rack to store our incoming and outgoing mail.  I place the mail received in the front, which hubby checks daily and in the back is mail that needs to be posted. So when I am popping out I know to check here before leaving.  I purchased this rack off ebay a while ago, link here.

And finally these IKEA paper storage boxes sitting perfectly in this shelf.  Storing white and coloured paper for our printer.  I tried to find a link but it appears that IKEA doesn’t sell them anymore 🙁

Which shelf are you going to declutter?

Not so much a shelf… I’m going to bend the rules a little… I’m going to clean off the top of my tv cabinet and my piano (which honestly sometimes look like shelves!). They are storing so much stuff we just don’t put away (cds, dvds, books, music etc). That’s my job for today. We are having people over on the weekend for my #1’s 6th birthday. I need to start getting ready today! Thanks for the tip!

The top shelf of my linen cupboard! This is a carry over from when you suggested we declutter our linens, there is no linen on this shelf so I ignored it 🙂 So now I must tackle it! And also the top of my TV cabinet too. Often ignored beacause I’m not tall enough to see the top, but its a catch all for all sorts of clutter!

Ooh I love that toast rack as a mail sorter! I did one of the shelves on my bookshelf that had acquired some extra bits and pieces that shouldn’t have been there

I have been staring at my wine glass cabinet for a few days now, thinking it needs a really good dust and re-sort… this is going to be my task for today.

I love everything about this shelf! White is my colour. This weekend I plan to tidy out my kitchen cupboard … the one with the roller door. Having the roller door is such a good idea that everything gets swept into it and now it is chokers. This season I have bought both a crockpot and a sandwich press. My kitchen is tiny and the only place big enough to store these is the roller door cupboard.
I love those baskets that you featured. I’d love a black and white one. I can think of a heap of things I could use it for.
Have a fantastic week.

Thanks for the motivation! For me it’s the kitchen “drop zone”. I have a cork board from IKEA above but it’s overwhelmed. LOVE the idea of the cloth basket(s) as I have oodles of fabric and will make it match the chair covers!

That would make it look very pretty to match the chairs.
