{Declutter} Nail Polish

Do you have a few extra bottles of nailpolish that you thought looked really pretty at the supermarket, purchased it, used it and it just wasn’t the right colour and now wonder what to do with it?  (Yes that’s me, I brought black nailpolish to wear to a concert I went to last year, it looked so wrong on my fair freckly hands).  Today I would like you to declutter your nailpolish collection, give away or throw away the ones you don’t use and that have dried up.

Here are 6 tips on what you can use old nailpolish for:

  1. Use clear nailpolish to repair runs in your stockings
  2. Give to the kids to use during art and craft time
  3. Use to mend holes in flyscreens
  4. Paint a different colour on each of your key’s to help you identify easily.  Eg, pink front door, red garage door, blue your mum’s house etc.
  5. Put some nailpolish on the frayed end of a shoe lace, it should then make it easier to thread and prevent it from fraying further.
  6. Give to a little girl who would love to paint her nails!

I paint my toe nails all the time, it is very rare to see my toe nails nude.  Apart from getting my haircut this is my only kind of pamper.  As you can see in the photo, reds and pinks are my favourite colour 🙂  I store my nailpolish in this little plastic basket.

If you store them in the fridge they last so much longer, I have a container with lid that I have them all in & leave them in the fridge at about the middle shelf at the back.. I also love to pamper my toes 🙂

A fun thing to do with nailpolish your not so keen on, is mix them with others until you have a shade you adore!

Hi Katrina,
First of all, I love reading your blog daily.
I just organise my nailpolish bag too. Our school has a fete every year & I know they always have a nailpolish stall, so, I donate mine there. Thought I share this.
Enjoy your day..

Nail polish can be given to your local Nursing Home , the residents love have their nails painted and would love it more than you would ever know.

What an excellent idea! I’ll declutter my nail polish this weekend and then have a trip down the road to my local nursing home. Thank you! 🙂

I webster pack for a group of mentally disabled teenage girls and you just reminded me that would be a great gift for them!

I recently discovered a way to use multiple colours of nail polish that is gorgeous, easy and fun! Google (or whatever) the words “marble nail polish”. I use about 5 colours to get amazing results. Some suggest masking tape around the finger area you don’t want painted but I smear Vaseline using a Q-tip. (It’s faster and and conditions the surrounding area at the same time!) I found a quick-dry nail spray at Walmart for under $5. It’s a huge can, it doesn’t take much and smells like baby powder. Have fun coordinating your nail colour with your clothes!

I just got this as a daily task today and the crafty opportunities for unused nail polish are endless. Also in terms of lumpy nail polish I think there are ways to try and fix them by mixing another liquid in.

But in terms of crafty ideas – Pinterest is amazing:

I personally love jazzing up my bobby pins with nail polish. They turn out so glittery! 🙂
