Monthly – deep clean
We fill our bins with rubbish every day, so it doesn’t take long for them to get dirty! Here are my tips on how to clean your rubbish bins and keep them free from germs.
kit
- Kat’s Cleaning Spray or antibacterial spray
- Paper towel
- Dishwashing liquid
- Scrubbing brush
- White vinegar
steps
quick clean
- When the bin is empty, spritz entire lid and bottom of the inside of the bin with cleaning spray.
- Sit for 5 minutes.
- Use a paper towel and more cleaning spray to clean base and lid.
- Add a new bin liner.
deep clean
- Take the bin outside and rinse with a garden hose. Alternatively, clean in the laundry sink.
- Fill the bin slightly with water.
- Add a few drops of dishwashing liquid and clean the base and lid with a scrubbing brush.
- Empty water from the bin and rinse with clean water.
- Spray the base and lid with vinegar. Dry in the sunshine.
- Disinfect the scrubbing brush by pouring boiling water over it, then soak bristles in vinegar for an hour. Rinse, shake and then air-dry.
How often?
Weekly – quick cleanMonthly – deep clean
Bicarb soda (or Fresh Carpet Sprinkle) sprinkled into the base of the bin will help absorb moisture and smells.
