Steps to clean clean a dirty mop head

All these step and DIY recipes can be found in my book, The Clean Home.

TO CLEAN THE BUCKET

  • Dispose of the dirty water from the mop bucket in a suitable manner, such as pouring it onto the garden or down the drain.

  • Thoroughly rinse the bucket with water to remove any residue.

  • Clean the bucket using an antibacterial cleaner, ensuring that the solution sits for 5 minutes to eliminate germs effectively.

  • Rinse the bucket with clean water to remove any traces of the cleaning solution. Allow the mop bucket to air dry completely before storing it away.

TO CLEAN THE MOP HEAD

  • For non-removable mop heads, simply soak them in hot water and 1 cup of vinegar for 10 minutes. Afterwards, give it a good wring and let it dry under the sun’s rays.

  • If your mop head is machine washable, throw it in with your other dirty cleaning cloths, adding 1 cup vinegar and your regular laundry detergent. Wash as usual and dry in the sunshine letting the sunlight work its magic while drying – an effective natural way to eliminate bacteria.

  • Sometimes, a dirty mop head may require a deeper cleaning to remove stubborn stains, odours, or bacteria. You can use water, vinegar, and baking soda to soak the mop head for a few hours or overnight. After deep cleaning, always rinse the mop head thoroughly and let it dry completely before using it again.
