How to Remove Yellow Stains from a Ninja Slushi Machine

If you’ve been making mango or fruit slushies lately, you might have noticed your Ninja Slushi machine container has gone a little yellow. It’s happened to so many. This happened to mine after our family party recently, and I’ve since had so many people share what worked for them too.

It wasn’t terrible, i’ve seen worse, but it was enough to notice. The container looked clean, yet still had that yellow tinge from the fruit drinks.

Before reaching for anything harsh, I tried something simple.

Why Ninja Slushi containers turn yellow

Fruit drinks like mango, berries, and even Fanta contain strong colour pigments. These pigments can cling to plastic, especially when the machine is used for bright coloured slushies.

The good news is that this kind of discolouration does not mean your machine is damaged. It just needs a little TLC.

First step, hot soapy water

As soon as I noticed the staining, I washed the Ninja Slushi container in hot, soapy water. This removed most of the residue and made a big difference straight away.

I did avoid using boiling water though. Very high heat can slightly soften plastic, and when that happens, colour pigments from foods like mango or tomato based sauces can cling more strongly. Warm or hot tap water is perfect for cleaning, just not boiling.

Even after washing, I could still see some yellow discolouration where all the liquid sits. It was one of those stains that doesn’t look dirty, just annoying.

So I tried something I’ve used before on plastic containers to remove bolognese and curry stains.

Why sunshine works on food stains

I placed the Ninja Slushi container outside in direct sunlight for a few hours.

There is actually a simple reason this works.

Sunlight contains natural UV rays that help break down the colour pigments from foods like mango and tomato based sauces. These pigments are what cause plastic to stain in the first place.

The UV light gently fades the stain over time, without the need for harsh chemicals or heavy scrubbing. It is a natural bleaching process and it is surprisingly effective on food stains in plastic.

SUNLIGHT AND PLASTIC

A few people suggested that putting plastic in the sun is not safe. For short periods, like a few hours to lift food stains, is perfectly fine. This method has been used for years with food-grade containers. Just avoid leaving it out for days at a time, and always wash and rinse it before using again.

Letting nature do its thing

I didn’t spray anything extra on it. I didn’t scrub again. I simply let the sun do its thing.

After a few hours outside, I brought the container back in and the yellow colour had lifted so much more than I expected. It looked fresher, cleaner, and much closer to how it did before the party.

Such a small thing, but it felt like a lovely little home win.

Other methods people have shared

After I shared this, so many of you sent in tips that worked for you too, and I loved seeing how many simple solutions there are.

Here are a few that others have had success with:

Paper towel and dish soap method
Some people suggested lining the inside of the container with paper towel, adding a little dish soap and warm water, then putting the lid on and giving it a gentle shake. Leaving this to sit for a while before rinsing can help lift the stain.

LED kitchen light method
A few people shared that placing the container under their LED kitchen light on the bench also helped the colour fade. Just like sunlight, some LED lights still emit enough light energy to help break down the food pigments over time.

Quick Ninja Slushi machine Review

We’ve really enjoyed using our Ninja Slushi machine for family get togethers and weekends. It’s been easy to clean, simple to use, and has handled fruit slushies well, even after a lot of use at our party.

Like most plastic containers, it can pick up colour from bright drinks like mango and Fanta, but as you can see, that’s easy to fix with a little care.
