We welcomed a little puppy into our household on the weekend…. Meet our Zoe, an 8 week old Cavalier King Charles Spaniel. She is absolutely delightful with the sweetest face. She is full of energy but I just love that when she’s tired, she’s out within 5 seconds. Ooh, I wish I could fall asleep that fast!
With new a puppy, I expected there may be messes in the house, so I planned ahead and made up this little Organised Puppy Cleaning Caddy.
When I was making it I was laughing at myself thinking “Am I over planning here!?” But now that we’ve had her for a few days, I am thankful that I made this caddy to have everything I need readily available. Somebody said it’s like having a toddler in the house again. YES! I feel like a new mum again, I am waking up during the night to take her out to potty, feeding her 4 times a day, and I anticipate no work will get done at all this week!
You will need:
CADDY – I purchased this caddy from Big W earlier this year, in a pack of 3.
ALL PURPOSE CLEANER – To clean up any messes she makes on upholstery, blankets, floorboards, etc. Find my recipe here.
WATER/VINEGAR & BICARB – To clean up any messes she makes on the carpet. These are cleaned up instantly. The bicarb helps to absorb up any smell. Read more about cleaning up pet messes here.
PAPER TOWEL – To help clean up those messes. I like Viva Paper Towel as it’s thick and absorbs really well.
PUPPY CHEW SPRAY – I’ve heard puppies like to chew furniture, I found some ‘stop chew spray’ at the pet shop and thought it was really expensive. I have made my own natural version, view my puppy chew spray recipe here.
EXTRAS – You could add newspaper, roll of plastic bags or puppy training pads. We’ve chosen not to use puppy training pads, I’ll share more about out puppy potty training process soon (so far so good, touch wood).

What is your best puppy potty training tip?

Katrina well done with the Video!! More please!! Have lots of chew toys for Zoe, lots!! When we first got our Jack Russell (Max) we had to be on the ball all the time, but he still managed to reach things and chew them up, like the Remote Control on the Coffee Table and my son’s glasses left low. Keep thinks up high, or higher than Zoe is when she stands up on her back legs. Praise her when she goes “potty” outside and just love her madly!!
Ooh she is soooo loved MJC, she’s settled in so well, the first day or two she was so sweetly quiet, but now she’s running manic feeling well and truly at home. She started nibbling at an heirloom side table I have of my grandparents, I sprayed my concoction I made and she didn’t like it at all. I have removed the table as I really don’t want that destroyed. We’ve only had her 3 days and she’s lost the squeak in one chew toy LOL.
Hi Katrina – congratulations on the puppy. They are the BEST family dogs. Can I ask where you got the clear spray bottles and the labels in your ‘puppy kit’ please. We are moving to a new house and I want to go chemical free and use more natural ingredients.
Thank you and I hope you and your family love every minute with Zoe.
I would also love to know where you got teethe spray bottles from please!
Thanks – that’s all great info! We’ve been thinking about a new addition to our family, so this is all fantastic to learn about. All the best with your new furbaby!
I also have a cavvie. My tip is to not expect miracles – it took a few months for mine to have the appropriate bladder control – and to ‘get’ the process, despite our diligence. It can be frustrating but it’s important to bear in mind it’s not their fault so you need to ignore ‘accidents’ and reward success.
She is lovely we also have a cav named lady she is now 7 years old and we have a 10 month old puppy I’m so glad we have floor boards they are easier to clean
OMG she is so cute. If you take her outside every half hour during the day when you are home she will get the idea very quickly that that is where she has to go. She may not always do something but every second or third time you go out she will. Also tell her you are going “out for wees” and she will understand that word too later on. It makes it easier later on when you want to take them out for a last wee at night before bed to say “time for wees” and they understand what you mean. They are so curious and will chomp on anything. Lots of toys to chew on and don’t be alarmed at how many end up ravaged and no squeak or insides left. They love stuffed animals/toys and love literally getting the stuffing out of them by biting and shaking. She will also find other things like remote controls and shoes and socks to chomp on too so be careful! Put everything away. Good luck and enjoy. Dogs are the best!!!
Oh my Kat!! Zoe is too cute for words! Great idea having a cleanup caddy:) you are super organised! Hope all goes well with settling in with Zoe. Please keep sending puppy pics!
Hi Katrina, can you please share your anti chew spray? Getting my puppy on friday! Also exactly how do you use the bicarb and vinegar mix? Thank you
Hi Katrina, Zoe is absolutely beautiful. I love your puppy cleaning caddy. We got our new family member who is also a cavalier on mothers day this year. She is now 14 weeks and we love her so much.
I have purchased all the ingredients for the all purpose cleaner was hoping you could share where you get your spray bottles from?
Hi Katrina, we are looking for a family pet & the Cavaliers are beautiful. Your Zoe is so cute! Did you buy her from a breeder as I have heard that is the best place? If so, can you recommend one near the Gold Coast? Thank you, Janine
Just emailed you Janine 🙂

Can I please have your receipe for the puppy chew spray. Our new pup comes in less than 2 weeks.
We have a 10 week old puppy and would love your chew spray recipe please
Thank you Bree
Hi Katrina! Do you have an update on your puppy chew spray and toiletting tips?? We collect our new puppy on Sunday and want to make sure I’m all prepared. I’m heading to the shops today to get my caddy organised 🙂
Hi Katrina. Do you think the puppy chew spray would work if you sprayed it on the dog to stop it chewing/licking itself? Depending on the ingredients of course. I would be very interested in your recipe.
Oh no, I still need to post the recipe. But No. When I do spray this, Zoe runs the other direction so I don’t think she would appreciate having it on her paws.
Can’t wait for the chew spray recipe please post it 🙂
You will find it on the blog soon 🙂
