Teacher Appreciation Day Gift Ideas

by Katrina - The Organised Housewife October 13, 2020February 5, 2021
October 13, 2020February 5, 2021

Thoughtful and gorgeous gift ideas (and a few craft ideas too!) that are perfect for your child’s teacher on Teacher Appreciation Day.

If ever there was a year to thank your child’s teachers for going that extra mile, it’s 2020! Teacher Appreciation Day is fast approaching (Friday the 30th of October) and is the perfect opportunity for parents to thank the teachers for all the extra time and effort they’ve put into our babies this year.

We’ve put together a beautiful collection of handmade and ready-to-purchase gift ideas for teachers below, and we’re also giving parents the chance to add a FREE personalised label to any drink bottle or cup purchase for their kid’s fav teacher (what teacher wouldn’t love that?!).

Every teacher is different, so we’ve broken these gift ideas down into six different categories in the hope that you’ll be able to find something that’s perfectly suited to your child’s fabulous teacher.

Gifts For Plant-Loving Teachers

Get crafty and add your own touch to a pot of herbs or some pretty flowers with fabric, ribbon or even a painted mason jar. Another fun option is to get your green-thumb (and maybe tea-loving) teacher a Grow Your Own Tea Kit.

Gifts Made Just For Teachers

Let the teachers know that they’ve made a mark on your children with one of these fun and funky prints. These are also great for last minute Teacher Appreciation Day gift ideas – simply purchase and print!

Handmade Gifts For Teachers

Mason jars are great for homemade gift ideas! Let the kids get to work on making some fun pencil holders or pretty containers that they can fill with lollies (check out these craft ideas and more here). Another great option is a craft kit that includes everything your children will need to make movable wall art, a Shrinkies charm bracelet or even some foil art (check out our full range of DIY kits here).

Gifts For Stationery-Loving Teachers

What teacher doesn’t love stationery?! Instead of giving boring pencils and pens, consider gifting a bright trendy notepad that’s both practical and pretty, or a Happy Desk Calendar that can bring happiness into the classroom all year round.

Personalised Gift Ideas

Nothing says “you’re an awesome, wonderful and caring teacher” like a personalised gift that literally spells that out. These printables are a very affordable way to give a thoughtful gift at the last minute – simply purchase, print and frame. For something a bit different you could also personalise a smoothie or coffee cup (see below). Use the code ‘Teacher’ at checkout to get a FREE personalised label!

Gifts For Arty Teachers

Give your child’s teacher something that they can do themselves. Arty teachers who love to get crafty would love one of our Diamond Dotz kits – they’re relaxing, easy, and pretty enough to pop in a frame and put on the wall when complete. Jigsaw puzzles are another great option, and my goodness there are some gorgeous ones kicking about at the moment!

Gifts For Wine-Loving Teachers

When in doubt about what to get your child’s teacher for Teacher Appreciation Day, we feel one of these wine inspired gifts would be right on the money – lol!

Day in day out, she plans, develops and implements learning activities. But most of all she creates a caring, supportive, kind and loving classroom. A classroom that develops the strengths and values of our children. A classroom that focuses on the holistic wellbeing of our children. And for that, I am forever grateful. Xx

Mrs D deserves a tumbler because she’s had to teach my eldest for 2 years (no easy task) and then there’s a highly likely chance she’ll get my youngest next year. Patience of a saint with compassion and understanding for students who just don’t quite fit. We thankyou Mrs D?

I nominate Brianna Roach. She is an amazing teacher. I had to take a leave to stay home with my son during Covid. She is my teaching partner. She has completely taken over. She goes above and beyond every day. In three years of teaching, she has never taken a day off. She loves her students and our school is lucky to have her.

Mrs Ahern has been the most encouraging, gentle yet firm, ball of energy and colour, in our boys life and has made a rough year with a bad teacher previously, into an amazing year! She has bought the light back into my son and renewed his love for learning and school – we will miss her terribly next year ?

I would like to nominate Ms Mary Rutledge. Mary has been teaching for 30 odd years. I love her no nonsense approach, she has a wonderful understanding of little people’s thought and feelings and the confidence she has built in my 9 year old is nothing short of amazing.
I wish so many more teachers had her ability to transform and mould our children.

My daughter’s teacher has spent two terms teaching from her bedroom, all whilst pregnant. I say this lady needs a tumbler with her name on it!

Would love to give my kids teachers a tumbler, they deserve so much for all their hard work, some lovely drinks would be a great start

My daughter has really developed her confidence and has had such a wonderful introduction to the school year’s, thanks to her wonderful Prep teacher. She works hard and even replies to emails out of school hours. She is an enthusiastic teacher whose passion for teaching is evident in the classroom and she works very hard and plus she has a rep of having the cleanest and tidiest classroom in the school!

My sons teacher has gone above and beyond during distance learning. She has met with parents and kids late at night that can’t be on during the day, she’s working to make sure all the students in her class have access to Internet and computers. She’s doing amazing teaching social emotional lessons, they have been learning about racism and bullying. We just found out we will be distance learning until at least the end of January, and she does so much work to make sure that her class still gets a feeling of community and belonging.

My son’s teacher Jen Bonte has been the most enthusiastic and fun Prep teacher during Melbourne Covid lockdown 1 and 2! She has managed to keep our kids e gaged, enthusiastic and absolutely loving learning. They had their first day back at school yesterday and my son commented that he had ‘the best day because she is awesome.’

My daughters teach Miss Barr, always goes the extra mile to make their classroom look amazingly inviting to the kids but at the same time make it feel like the safest place! My daughter loves her and has really come out of her shell after being part of Miss Barr’s class! I definitely think she deserves a tumbler with her name on it!

Absolutely every teacher in Melbourne deserves to be honored. This year has been like no other. Switching from face to face classes, to remote, to face to face with masks, then temperature checks and then back to remote learning. A little special to VCE teachers, they have the added stress and responsibility to give their students in this crazy time, the best possible educational outcome.

During Melbourne Covid lockdown 1 and 2 my sons teacher has been amazing. Making the adjustments needed and making it seems effortless (which we know is definitely has not been). My son is a special needs kid and the care and support shown to him at this time has been so inspiring. He is gentle, kind, firm when needed but most of all connects with not only my son but all the kids. My son really loves his teacher and would love to show him how much he means to him with giving him a tumbler with his name on it. We know he loves his morning coffee. I’m sure he wouldn’t want any gifts which means giving him one would show him how much we all care about what he has down for not just my kid but all the kids in lockdown.

I’m a teacher and I love to see all these amazing comments from everyone about their children’s teachers. I would appreciate if you all would send these messages, if you haven’t already, to these amazing teachers. That would mean a lot. As it has been one of those years. Xx

Would love to give this to my sons teacher Mr Morrison. He is not only the teacher but assistant principal and head of all the year 1 and 2. He is also a brand new father after his wife had a baby at the start of the year. He is passionate about sport and really encourages my son who really loves footy

Mrs McDonnell deserves a big bloody medal and an endless supply of coffee in your cup as she puts up with my 10 year old who does not shut up! His idea of fun is reciting copious amounts of scientific facts on any topic known to man! For putting up with him locked in the confines of four walls for hour upon hour, day after day…….enough said?

My 9 year old daughter has a medical issue that requires attention every couple of hours. Whilst learning from home, twice, it was easy to tackle this myself but with her going back to school I had anxiety on how this would affect her and her schooling.
Needless to say, her teacher has been amazing. She is on top of it all as well as making her classroom a really fun and enjoyable environment not only for my daughter but all of her classmates. My daughter LOVES going to school and speaks so much about her teacher on a daily basis. She even makes the effort with my other younger, non school age children, which I know will make a positive difference when they embark on primary school as well. Thank you Miss D

Mrs Duncan is a god send! She is the teacher to my 11 year old triplet boys and she is amazing! Two of my boys have autism and she handles them in addition to the other students so calmly. She provides them with tough love and they just adore her. I only wish I could take her to high school with the boys next year.

My son’s teacher had to learn a whole new way of teaching while remote learning. From whiteboards and notebooks to YouTube and one note she has done a fabulous job. She was able to change her way of working from 25 years of teaching in the space of two weeks.

I am so grateful for my daughters Teacher this year! As a year one student who can be quite anxious and then throw in all the changes with Covid, we had so much anxiety around how the year would go! But Miss Black made it so fun for my daughter and all the kids in the class, she taught them resilience and that it’s ok for things to not go as planned! I couldn’t have imagined the year without her! I know the teachers worked extra hard this year and for all of these reasons I’m forever grateful.

My daughter and myself, are finishing 2020 not only smarter but also less anxious and more resilient.

My son’s teacher, Mrs Burcheri, has displayed an incredible amount of kindness, always starting the mornings with a bright and cheery disposition. When my sons standard of work has fallen a little short of the expected standard, she has offered advice on how he can complete it without leaving him feeling demoralised.

Our boys teachers have been so encouraging and supportive during the extended period of home schooling in Victoria. They kept our boys engaged in their schoolwork and adapted so quickly to the situation.

My son’s teacher is also an executive for K-2 as well as teaching. Through this year it has been exceptionally been tough for her, as with every other teacher in this craziness. If I win I will also buy one for her offsider as it has been a team effort.

This has been a very difficult year for all teachers this year, especially here in Victoria! All teachers deserve something wonderful and the teacher that has to put up.with my kids all day deserves twice as much (jk my kids are pretty awesome, but still!?)

Why? Because Mr Nathan has the patience of a saint! He is the teacher of seven special teenage boys who surprise and challenge him everyday and still he smiles and guides these young men to reach their potential. He deserves this gift for being truely amazing.

My daughter has struggled a lot through school, from learning difficulties to having no friends. Now, in grade 5, she has come along way in all areas. She even has a small handful of friends & is having her first birthday party since prep this weekend. I don’t know how Ms Clancy has done it, but I think she is the best teacher my daughter has ever had so far. Thank you Ms Clancy! xo

✨ Task: Baking Day
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I always add something baked to the lunchboxes like a muffin or biscuits. I usually always bake with the intention to freeze. I place the frozen muffin/biscuits into lunch boxes that morning and it's always defrosted by morning tea time. I spend an hour or two in the kitchen every few weeks to stock up the freezer. My favourites are coconut & pineapple muffins, 100+ cookies, and ham muffins 👩‍🍳🍪

School/work mornings can end up chaotic, but with a little routine and planning, you can make the lunch packing madness a simple and easy process. ✨ Task: Wardrobe Declutter
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
In our new year refresh series, we turned around our coat hangers to see at the beginning of the next season what we haven’t worn (my hanger method). I forgot to take a photo but you will see the number of clothes I haven’t worn between then and now in my stories. There were quite a few.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I have since gone through and purged them and because I have to be honest with you, I have put on weight in this past year and choosing clothes to wear in the mornings has been a little depressing as there are quite a few that don’t fit me. It has only been 24 hours since I tidied up my wardrobe but waking up this morning and picking my clothes was already a brighter and easier start to my day 💛
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
LOL, and yes I colour code my clothes.

✨ Task: Create A Meal Plan
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Each week I plan my meals for the upcoming week- what most people call meal or menu planning. I have been doing this for a good 18 years and I can't recommend it enough!
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
It really is a simple task that takes 5-10 minutes to plan one week of meals. The money and time that these five minutes save me throughout my week, makes it well worth the effort. Plus, I’m not a huge fan of visiting the grocery store more than once a week 🛒
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I have been online grocery shopping for nearly 2 years now. I love it, I rarely see the inside the grocery store these days. I do a local pick up and use my laundry basket with legs instead of bags. Makes unpacking when in the kitchen so much easier 😊
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Do you meal plan? If not will you give it a try? If you do, why do you love it?
