Reindeer Food

Last year my youngest receive a bag of Reindeer Food from her best friend.  It was the sweetest little gift.

I’m going to make some with the kids this year and have created a few tags (FREE for your to download, see below) to attach to the bags.

What you will need

  • Raw rolled oats
  • Jelly crystals
  • Snack sized bags/zip lock bags
  • Ribbon
  • Paper or cardstock

How to make it

  1. Add 1/2 cup of oats to bag
  2. Sprinkle jelly crystals  of glitter, as much as you like
  3. Close bag
  4. Attach ribbon
  5. Print tag
  6. Add tag with a little ribbon

Note:  Glitter was used in the bag above, but as a reader suggested last year jelly crystals would be more friendly for the wildlife.

Isn’t this a cute idea!

our kids used to LOVE doing this ! it’s such a nice tradition to start…. you can also use birdseed instead of the jelly/glitter :)

  • Laura

Sorry just saw your note re the jelly crystals. Don’t think I will use jelly crystals though – probably attract ants

I have always made it with a bag of homebrand bird seed and some glitter. I wrap a handful in cello tie with a ribbon and attach the poem and hand it out to all the children in my class. Easy cheap and the kids (and parents) love it.

I had never seen this before and my daughter received some from her day care. She slept, clutching the bag when she fell asleep that night. What a fab idea

This orginated in the northern hemsiphere and the glitter was used to help the reindeer find the food on the snow. My Mum and i brought this idea back from Alsaka many years ago and have made hundred of bags to sell for charities over the years

I’ve been making this for over a decade and it’s a tradition for us. Instead of glitter, use coloured sugar. Friendlier for the animals.
