{FREE Printable} Back to School Checklist

December, January and early February is a very busy time of year for our family, as we have Christmas, my birthday, kids go back to school then… my niece is due (squealing with excitement that I am going to be an Aunty…finally!!), my 3 kids, MIL and my mum’s birthday’s all in the same fortnight.  So I need to make a start on back-to-school shopping in November prior to Christmas to ease our budget into an expensive few months.

I have already purchased:

  • Uniform shirts
  • Socks (Big W, pure white)
  • Hats
  • Pencil Cases, gift for Christmas
  • Lunchboxes, gift for Christmas
  • Drink bottles, gift for Christmas
  • School bag, gift for Christmas
  • Labels
  • Ordered their book list through the school book supply company

To keep track of the other items I need to purchase I use my ‘Back to school Checklist’.  FREE for you to download.

I have a similar level of expensive chaos and mayhem in the month *before* Christmas (two kids birthdays, two lots of car rego, two adult birthdays and Christmas – all in the space of about six weeks. It was worse… all three cars registration was due in the same period until we sold one car and bought another).

And just for fun, both kids tend to go a decent growth spurt between their birthdays and the end of the school holidays! Therefore, I tend to leave the uniform top up until the end of January – which sucks because they have uniforms with logos, so the ‘good’ uniform shop is often out of the bits I need.

    So…
Mid January, get both kids to try stuff on
Guess what I think I’ll need
Order labels if I’m running low
End of January – try on again then hit the uniform shop
Mid February, finally get all the bits I need

(You’d think after four years, I’d have a better plan than that!)

I pick up shorts and socks when I see them on sale (although I should be pretty right this year…); and pick up stationery from school in the week before it starts.

School uniform layby will be picked up before christmas. Then I wont think about it until after my sons birthday (2nd) Jan.. I always have a large glass of wine that night because I know all the ‘formal’ celebrations are over & mummy can relax a little
