Step by step instructions – how to clean windows, using a natural homemade window cleaner.

  • With a newly turned three year old and an almost two year old I’m certainly in that ‘hopeless caus’ phase! It doesn’t help that our living area is made up of two walls of bifold doors and they are ALWAYS covered in little finger and hand prints! I do try and give them a good clean down at least once a month, just so I can enjoy clean windows for a good 10 minutes or so! I will certainly be giving this homemade glass cleaner a try – thanks!ReplyCancel

    • Katrina - The Organised Housewife

LOL, that’s it Lauren, 10 minutes of clean before fingers are on them again :)ReplyCancel

    • lexi

Can u give them a spray bottle and cloth to help?
I used to when my son was about 2.5yrs
I ended up with lovely clean floorboards :)ReplyCancel

        Fantastic idea, Lexi.:) ~ KateReplyCancel

  • Joyful

From when my children were about 18 months old I taught them to “look with their eyes”, not their hands, thus clean windows! One does not need their hands to see through a window! This also applied in shops, so they never touched anything on display and I’ve never had to panic about paying for breakages.ReplyCancel

    • Katrina - The Organised Housewife

Great tip i do like it.:)ReplyCancel

  • Jennifer B.

Here’s the Lazy Window Cleaner’s recipe – obviously just for the outside of windows as you’ll see…

    2 litres of warm water
2 tablespoons laundry detergent (1 tbsp Morning Fresh)
    1 tablespoon of rinse aid

Wash the windows with a sponge with this solution, HOSE THEM DOWN working from across the top and down and then walk away!
The water ‘sheets’ down to give a streak free finish just as it does on glasses in your dishwasher.ReplyCancel

    • Molly

i think i have used morning fresh and rinse aid and washed windows just like this!!! today at our old rental my mum cleaned my windows with a dustpan brush and hot soapy water (dish liquid) and the hosed off….worked a treat…lots of finger prints from little 21month old!!!ReplyCancel

      • Katrina - The Organised Housewife

        Great ideas, Molly!ReplyCancel

    • Katrina - The Organised Housewife

Ooh i like the sound of this! I am going to try adding the rinse aid, thanks for sharing a great tip, Jennifer! ~ KateReplyCancel

  • We have avoided cleaning our windows since we moved in as we still have so much dusty sand to cover. They are so bad now im paying a pro to come clean them tomorrow. I still have to keep these tips to keep them cleanReplyCancel

Just wondering about the vinegar, i used to clean my floors with it but my husband didn’t like the house smelling like vinegar, is there a particular vinegar to use maybe i used too much? Can you smell the vinegar?
    ThanksReplyCancel

    • Katrina - The Organised Housewife

Hi Kelly, I only ever clean with vinegar. Maybe try again, to give you an idea i use 2 litres of water to a very small dash of vinegar ( about 1/3 cup) i just use the coles homebrand vinegar. I hope it works better for you.:)ReplyCancel

  • Lilian Dolan

You can add either fabric conditioner or essential oil of your choice to mask smell + to feel like uve had a treat too xReplyCancel

    • Katrina - The Organised Housewife

Love this idea, I keep my house clean but I do the bare minimum, I know there are many things that need cleaning like the phone, it has so much dirt build up. My front entry is so dusty and must admit very neglected, so will put that on the list to do today. Thank you Kat you are such a wonderful motivation.ReplyCancel

    • Katrina - The Organised Housewife

Yes the phone, and a place germs can harbour and spread, so pleased you are going to follow along!ReplyCancel

  • Debbie Tufilli

  • I take my shoes off the millisecond I get home because I don’t like wearing shoes. Everyone else at mine takes their shoes off in various locations in the house (that’s annoying, lol), but because we all have bare feet or socks inside, visitors tend to take their shoes off, too. They don’t have to – and I really don’t mind if they don’t! But if I go to someone else’s house I don’t take my shoes off unless they request it.

The Minions will be looking for things to do this weekend, so I shall be getting them to do the low down bits of the entry at ours. It’s cluttered up with a box of shoes, and as we have a doggie… copious hair!ReplyCancel

    • Katrina - The Organised Housewife

Love your getting your minions to help Miss Maudy!!ReplyCancel

  • Donna

Not sure if I’m having a “blah” moment, but how do I follow along? Is there and icon to press so that I can register for this free series?ReplyCancel

Donna, there is a text box located below the heading in blue “Will you join along with the cleaning tasks each week”? There is a picture of some flowers on the left with an offer to join the challenge and just select it.ReplyCancel

      • Donna

Sorry – in the 3rd paragraph, it says that this is FREE to join along. When I hit the box you suggested, it tells me that it is at least $47?
        Still confused.ReplyCancel

        • Belinda

Yeah when I click the link I am getting a link that directs me to the 20 days to organise your home that you need to pay for.

If someone could post the free link that would be very helpful, I am probably missing it & it is really obvious. LOL

          ThanksReplyCancel
