Helping to create calm amongst the chaos of everyday life.

Hi – I’m Katrina Springer (aka, Kat, The Organised Housewife).

As a mother of three children, all now older teens. I began blogging years ago as a way to share my tips and tricks to keeping a happy and organised home. With three kids (twins + 1) under two at one stage of my life, I simply had to get a handle on home organisation and very quickly – for mine and my husband’s sanity.

I’ll be the first to admit that I love a chart, a checklist or a planner to help bring even more calm and organisation into the home. I also know that every home and every family is unique and there’s not a one-size-fits-all approach to life. All my tips can easily be adapted to suit your individual circumstances.

MY STORY

Growing up, I idolised my grandmother. With seven children and 20 grandchildren, she kept her home tidy and clean and always greeted us with delicious baked treats. I spent my school holidays with her; crafting, baking and helping with the housework. I wanted to be just like her.

Sadly, my Nan passed away a year after I got married. When I later became a mother, I had so many questions I wished I could ask her. She’d had twins too and I’m sure she could have given me some heart-warming advice.

Parenting was hard
After having my babies, I felt so tired. The washing piled up, clutter crowded our dining table, and I was just emotionally drained. I put on a happy face but deep down it was a struggle. I didn’t want to be like this, I had a different vision of motherhood. I knew I needed to change my mindset and remember what I wanted in being a parent.

I joined a mother’s group and I remember asking the other parents things like, ‘How do keep on top of your washing?’, ‘Do you have any good recipes? But the other mums were reluctant to talk about they coped. I felt that no-one wanted to admit they were also struggling.

Working out solutions
Somehow, I managed to pick myself up and find ways to regain control of my home and wellbeing. I began to plan my meals. I created morning and afternoon routines to manage the kids, and schedules to keep on top of the washing, decluttering and cleaning. I accepted that I couldn’t achieve perfection, but that imperfectly perfect was good enough.

Miraculously, it worked. With my routines in place, I began to be more productive, spend more time with the family and, importantly, look after myself. As I began to cope better, my mood and wellbeing lifted which created a happier home for everyone. I’m truthful when I say that the outcome was genuinely life changing.

The birth of an idea
When my youngest started school, I planned to return to work. But I remembered a conversation I had with a friend and those mums back in the mothers’ group, who I’d been sure were quietly struggling, and I had an idea. What if I shared my experience with others? What if my knowledge could make others’ lives easier and their family life more enjoyable? I decided I would start a blog, where I could share my recipes and my tips and tricks for keeping a clean and organised home.

The first friend I told thought it was a terrible idea and I almost gave up on my little dream before it started! But another friend was supportive. When she said she’d always thought of me as an ‘organised housewife’, I knew I’d found the name.

A community develops
In 2010, The Organised Housewife was born. I began sharing recipes, cleaning tips and meal plans to a small group of mums. I shared my honest experiences of motherhood, my struggles and small triumphs; the little things I did every day to keep our home clean and organised; and this seemed to resonate with readers.

My little community began to grow. As I cleaned and organised my own home and found the easiest, safest and most affordable way to accomplish tasks, I shared my advice. Soon, other mums began to share their own experiences and tips, and The Organised Housewife blog took on a life of its own.

A time of growth
As community members asked my advice on which products to buy, I began stocking popular products in my own online store to give them a ‘one stop shop’ to achieve their domestic goals. When the world went into lockdown in 2020, many people rediscovered the joy of their homes and invested unprecedented time and energy into organising and cleaning them. Hundreds of thousands of people turned my blog and store for advice, resulting in the rapid growth of the store that would become Organised HQ.

Today…
Never in my wildest dreams did I imagine that my little idea would become two businesses with a reach of five million each month and that I would be employing a team of ten. The Organised Housewife blog continues to be one of Australia’s leading sources of domestic advice while the Organised HQ store supplies cleaning and organisational products around the country and beyond.

I love what I do and I thank my community for supporting me. If you are struggling, I want you to know that you can gain back the control, have a home you enjoy spending time in and create calm to replace the chaos.

There may not be many girls who dream of becoming a housewife today, but I believe that, no matter who in the family does the domestic tasks, keeping a house clean, calm and organised is what makes it a home.

From this experience, I want to help those who feel overwhelmed by their clutter, step by step declutter their homes and enjoy their space.

ABOUT THE ORGANISED HOUSEWIFE

I started The Organised Housewife blog in August 2010 because I wanted to share my recipes, printables, tips and ideas of how I keep my home clean and organised. To share the journey that I have taken in creating routines that helped me through tough times, find ideas that help make home life easier, and to help somebody like my mum to reduce their clutter so they can enjoy their home, comforts and space around them.

Read the ideas I share via the blog posts and adapt them to suit your family.  I am not an expert,  just one mum sharing a journey of how we manage our family and home. But do remember, I’m not saying this is how it should be done and what works for one family may not work for another, but you could just tweak the idea slightly to adapt to suit your family.

My hope is that through my blog you can find some inspiration and motivation to help you enjoy a clean and organised home.

Via The Organised Housewife blog, Facebook and Instagram I provide readers with daily tips and ideas to keep them and their family organised. Ideas to create new habits like making the bed first thing in the morning, creating a routine for the kids to make mornings chaos and frustration-free or suggesting areas to clean that you may forget about, such as the dust on the ceiling fans. My aim is to motivate and inspire readers to enjoy the journey they are living with their family while easily keeping a tidy home.  I have also created a cleaning checklist that will help you with your weekly cleaning routine.

Join me in creating a home you will LOVE!
